Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, notes, telegrams, news clippings, brochures & other items. These are not filed in order but appear rather random as to specific months and dates. Perhaps the bulk of this folder is due to requests for the new 49-50 star flags. Selected examples are: letters (1/25/58-6/15/59) re/ Franklin Baker, Jr. of El Cajon and a 10 year old Cub Scout finally receives his flag flown over the Capitol; letters & note (6/17 & 6/24/59) re/ Bob Wilson requests flags flown over the Capitol for his son Bryant, for presentation to brother Richard W. Wilson & to the San Diego County Fair, see also letter (2/4/59) from Richard Wilson with lots of personal details; letters & telegram (Mar.-Apr. 1959) re/ Thomas W. Sefton (San Diego Trust Saving Bank) requests large flag & Wilson replies about cost and whether Sefton wanted “a 49-star or a 50-star 10x15 flag. Bear in mind that the 49-star flag will not be flown until July 4th, and it will probably be a year or so before the 50-star flags will be available;” letters (Mar.-Apr.) re/ flags for the Chula Vista Youth Center Gymnasium, the Volcan Y Camp, Cosimo A. Cutri (Italian Consular Agent) honoring Dr. Tedeschi (Italian Consul from Los Angeles), Mrs. Gladys Mouton (Navy 913, N.S.G.A.) & question about pork & ham sold by commissary in Germany, Union Title Insurance new building & Mrs. Alice P. Shallenberger for the San Diego Chapter of the D.A.R; letters (Jan.-Mar. 1959) re/ the 4th grade students of the San Ysidro Beyer School send their thanks to Wilson for the flag and he comments on national origins mixture at the school; letters, notes & news bulletin (Jan.-Feb. 1959) re/ Mrs. Marion Jessop presents flag to Harry Wegeforth School, letters (2/59) re/ flag for the San Diego Chapter of the D.A.R. & a copy of their No. 47 News Bulletin; letters (2/59) re/ more references to the S.D. Chapter of the D.A.R.; letter (1/2/59) re/ flag for the Point Loma Council, No. 3947 of the Knights of Columbus; letters (12/3/58 to 1/14/59) re/ flag for the South Shore Federation of Republican Women; letters (Feb.-July ’59) re/ flag ceremony in Balboa Park for Knights of Columbus; letters (Feb.-July ’59) re/ Back Country Retired Service Men’s Club thanks Wilson for his assistance in obtaining the 6% raise in military pay and also request a flag; news clipping – The San Diego Union, June 20 ’59, re/ photo of two El Cajon 12-year olds, Franklin Baker & Dennis Bertrand & Wilson elated over receiving flags flown over the Capitol – also see accompanying letters; letters (Apr.-July ’59) re/ Imperial Beach Boy Scout Troop 817 receive flag for their Scout Fair Booth; additional organizations, groups & persons regarding flags flown over the Capitol are: The Mission Beach & Ocean Beach Republican Women’s Clubs; the Arlington Baptist Church; the San Diego Chapter of the American National Red Cross; the Annin & Co.
