Scope and Contents
Three stapled packets of material. A letter (4/11/62) from Richard Rosenblatt (Curator of Marine Vertebrates and Dir., Aquarium Museum, Scripos Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla) & letters (4/16/62) from Congressman Wilson re/ Prof. Rosenblatt's concerns about H.R. 8401 and research programs by the Smithsonian Institution; letters (11/16/61 & 4/19/62) from Francis L. Schmehl, Sc.D. (Chief, Health Research Facilities Branch, Div. of Research... Grants, Public Health Service, HEW) to Congressman Wilson re/ Wilson's interest in the University of California's application for assistance in the construction of health-related research facilities on the San Diego campus. In 1961 the amount was $1,776,000 and in 1962 the amount awarded was $1,598, 400; and three letters & a memo (Feb. & May, 1962) from UCSD Chancellor Herbert York & Congressman Wilson & copies of H.R. 8141 (37th Cong, 1st Sess.) & "Report No. 724" re/ "Revising The Laws Relating To Depository Libraries." Professor York's complaint was that the current law permitted only one depository per congressional district. The House passed HR 8141 on August 22, 1961 but in March 1962 the Senate had "not yet reported."
