Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, telegrams, memorandum, reports, news clippings and other material. Examples are: letters (Sept.-Oct., 1963) from constituent T.H. Higgins, Congressman Wilson, Allen A. Howell (Asst. Dir. to News Services, Office of the Asst. Sec. of Defense) & Walter Winchel news clipping re/ allegations with respect to the sale in 1958 of United States radar equipment to a British company; letters (Aug.-Sept. 1963) from constituent T.G. Atkinson, Wilson & Edward J. Sheridan (Dep. Asst. Sec. of Defense for Properties and Installations) re/ complaints from the American Society of Civil Engineers registering dissatisfaction with Dept. of Defense Directive 4105.56 on "Uniform Standards for Selection of Architect-Engineer Firms for Professional Services;" a small packet of letters (April-Aug. 1963) re/ a constituent's attempt to "find a list of life insurance companies authorized to do business, subject to the local commanders' final approval, on Defense installations in the Far East;" letters (Aug.-Oct. 1963) from the Lucky Lager Brewing Company and the Law Offices of Hester, Ownen & Crowder re/ the United States Brewers Assn. request to the Defense Dept. to increase sales of American beer to the military overseas and decrease the sale of foreign beer; a packet of corresp. (Oct.-Dec. 1963) re/ disatisfaction with a DOD "Survey of Retired Military Personnel;" letters (6/63) from constituent Ray E. Naud, Congressman Wilson & Lt. Col. Rex R. Sage (Chief of Legislative Liaison, Office of the Sec. of the Army) re/ Mr. Naud's complaints about Yugoslavian military officers being trained at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; a packet of corresp. & a news clipping (Mar.-April 1963 & Mar. 1962) re/ controversy over Marine Corps Recruit Depot Band participation in local parades; and packets of letters from constituents re/ such topics as "Costly Wastepaper," chemical and biological warfare research and development by the DOD, complaints to Secretary McNamara & B.F. "Sandy" Coggan's serving as a consultant to the DOD; also see Congressman Wilson's March 7, 1963 letter to Secretary McNamara re/ Russia and Cuba, troops and missiles; and letters & enclosurers (May-July 1963) re/ Government competition with Commercial Forwarders and Exports.
