Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, news releases, memorandum, notes, postal cards and other items. Examples are: copies of  "For Release Sunday, March 12, 1961" from the Washington Office of Rep. Bob Wilson re/ Wilson "charged the Kennedy Adminstration with trying to lower a 'curtain of silence' over the handling of public affairs and cited a Defense Department 'gag order' as a typical example;" a collection of constituent letters and Wilson's replies regarding complaints about a directive from the DoD "forbidding its personnel from discussing the release of the RB47 fliers" and reference to stories in the San Diego Union in February 1961; a large collection of letters (Mar.-May 1961) from constituents, Wilson's replies and other commentaries from military authorities re/ "San Diegans complaining about an order or directive issued to preclude the showing of the film clip 'Communism on the Map' to military personnel;" a copy of Congressman Wilson's letter (3/16/61) to Captain Francis A Klaveness (Asst. Dir., Naval Intelligence) & letters (3/17 & 3/26/61) from LCDR G.T. Sinclair, Jr. (Office of the Chief of Naval Operations) & Captain Klaveness re/ Wilson's complains about a recent newspaper article in the El Cajon Valley News, issue March 12, 1961, commenting on "Operation Abolition " and that "some quarters in the military are being persuaded to be soft on the anti-communism fight;" letters (Mar.-Ap. 1961) from constituent Charles, J. Krieger (Naval Electronics Laboratory employee), Congressman Wilson, Adm. Arleigh Burke (Chief of Naval Operations) & J. Edgar Hoover (F.B.I.) re/ Mr. Krieger's concerns "about the publication in magazines and in the daily press of information on subject matter we are required to treat as Confidential, i.e. classified;" a copy of the Republican National Committee's "Battle Line," Ap. 21, 1961, featuring "Censorship Mounts In Kennedy Administration;" and a letter (5/10/61) from Elizabeth C. Barnes (Baltimore, Maryland) to Wilson re/ support for General Edwin A. Walker being restored to his command of the 24th Div. in Germany.
