Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, memorandum, a legal brief, periodical excerpt & other items. Examples are: a letter (1/18/61) from Asst. Postmaster General Rollin D. Barnard to Congressman Wilson re/ personal comment as to "all you've done to make my work here so interesting and worthwhile;" letters (Jan.-Feb. 1961) from constituent Edwin J. Loeffler, Congressman Wilson & F.U. Mills (Dir., Postal Installations Div.) re/ Mr. Loeffler's suggestion to install mail collection boxes at the entrance door to buses; letters ( May 1960-Feb. 1961) from constituent David M. Sapp (David M. Sapp Construction Co.) & Congressman Wilson re/ suggestions for new lighting, air conditioning and some expansion for both Chula Vista and La Mesa post offices so as to readjust the leases. Wilson informed Mr. Sapp that the Post Office Dept. was "turning down your proposal" & indicated that "you are asking too much in annual rent;" letters (Feb.-Mar. 1961) from Lakeside constituents Mr. & Mrs. Thomas W. Hatfield, Congressman Wilson, L.B. Schoonover (Dir., Postal Installation Div,.) & Ralph W. Wheeler (Regional Operations Dir., Post Office Dept.) re/ the Hatfield's complaints about poor road conditions on Gardena Road that inhibited mail delivery. The neighbors eventually resolved the problem before the County did its duty; a large packet of corresp. (Feb. 1960-Ap. 1961) re/ Legal brief, letters and periodical excerpt pertaining to charges made by the Post Office Dept. against the Cardiac Society of Detroit, Michigan; a letter (5/22/61) from Donald J. Mathers (President, Rotor Air Corp., San Diego) to Wilson and attached photo copy of AOPA confidential newsletter (5/61) re/ concerns about a Post Office investigation & investment of "several millions of dollars to Umbaugh Aircraft Corporation by way of deposits on aircraft to be built of a new autogyro design;" letters (May-June 1961 from Imperial Beach constituent John E. Stanbrough, Wilson and Edwin A. Riley (Dir., Postal Service Div.) re/ former employee Stanbrough's suggestions for a "Delayed On-Time" delivery service by the Post Office Dept.; letters (May-Aug. 1961 re/ a constituent's concern over a publication sent through the mails, "The Crusader Weekly Newsletter" and its alleged "anti-American, anti-white man" point-of-view; other items in this folder are: a copy of "Postal Manual 123.5 Correction of Mailing Lists;" an Oct. 4, 1961 Post Office press release re/ "Postal Patron" mail & material on "Congressional Franked Mail"; a constituent's complaint about the Post Office "being loaded down with the delivery of trash?;" and letters (Nov.-Dec. 1961) from constituent Edward G. Toews (Grantham School of Electronics), Congressman Wilson and H.B. Montague (Chief Postal Inspector) re/ loss of letters and Mr. Toews' loss of faith in the Post Office Dept.
