Scope and Contents

A collection of memorandum, letters, telegrams and other items. Examples are: Memorandum, Apr. 9, 1961, "Subject: State Department Briefings on U. S. Foreign Policy for Members of Congress to be held in House Caucus Room on Wednesday from 5 – 6 p.m. beginning April 11" re/ Wilson's concern with monitoring "vulnerable errors in the Administration's foreign policy which should give openings for Republican corrective statements;" letters (Sept. 1961-Apr. 2, 1962) from El Cajon constituent O. T. Harding, Congressman Wilson & John S. Hoghland 2nd (Acting Asst. Secretary for Congressional Relations, Dept. of State) re/ concerning "persecution of Christian people" in Spain, primarily Jehovah's Witnesses; letters (Feb.-Apr. 1962) from San Diego constituent Mrs. Edwin G. Hutchinson, Congressman Wilson & Frederick G. Dutton (Asst. Secretary of State) re/ Mrs. Hutchinson's erroneous fears of a "Draft Convention" on UNESCO control of education; letters (Feb.-Mar. 1962) from La Mesa constituent Allen P. Rothlisberg, Congressman Wilson & Frederick G. Dutton (State Dept.) re/ Mr. Rothlisberg's & Wilson's negative reaction to the Administration decision regarding the proposed visit of Moise Tshombe to speak to Young Americans for Freedom rally; eight more small packets of letters and telegrams regarding additional negative commentary as to the Department of State and the Kennedy Administration actions concerning the proposed visit of Moise Tshombe; a Wilson Memo (n.d.) to The Honorable James Utt & attached 5 page letter (3/7/62) from Frederick G. Dutton (Asst. Secretary, State Dept.) re/ "Recently you asked for our views on a portion of a mimeographed handout on the United Nations bond issue . . . . [the State Department concluded that] the tract was without merit and perhaps even libelous;" a packet of letters, U.S. News & World Report Newsgram & Dept. of State Press Release (Sept. 1961-Mar. 1962) regarding responses to constituent O.W. Cotton's concern based on the allegations contained in the Newsgram and his fears of neutral nations being allied with Communists; a packet of corresp. (Jan.- Mar. 1962) re/ Princess Park Estates, Inc. requests to obtain information from the State Department relative to building residential properties in Mexico under an Agency for International Development assistance program.
