Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, telegrams, office notes, Congressional Record reprint, State Department notices & other items. Examples are: a copy of "THE CASE OF MR. OTTO OTEPKA," an Office of Public Services, Bureau of Public Affairs, Dept. of State- - one page analysis; 12 small packets of constituent queries and responses from Wilson and the Dept. of State regarding the Otto Otepka dismissal; a telegram (3/3/65) from constituent Professor Yearl E. Schwartz (New Life Club) & responses (Mar.-June 1965) from Congressman Wilson and Douglas MacArthur II (Asst. Sec. for Congressional Relations) re/ a request to impel the West German Government to extend the statute of limitations on Nazi war crimes as have the Belgian and French governments; letters (Feb.-July 1965) from Walter Velechovsky (La Puente, CA), Wilson & Douglas MacArthur II re/ queries related to the Abraham Lincoln School in Lima, Peru, Fulbright-Hays Act grants to the school and alleged missing funds; letters (July-Aug. 1965) from constituent O. F. Hawley, Wilson & the State Dept. re/ Mr. Hawley's suggestion that American tourists be required to buy foreign currencies owned by the U.S. to reduce the impact on our balance of payments; letters, phone message and Memo For File ( Aug.-Sept. 1965) re/ constituent in Spain's difficulty in obtaining funds to return stateside for medical conditions; letters (Sept.-Oct. 1965) & attached copy of reprint of the Congressional Record (89th Cong., 1st Sess.) re/ "Discrimination of Hungarians in Rumania" & State Dept. response; other issues and topics in this folder are: Dept. of State letter and information on format for Community Meetings on Foreign Policy (Nov.-Dec.) and listings of schedules for these meetings in California cities, colleges & other locations; a constituent critique of tax money used for "pimps and prostitutes (Sukarno)" and other complaints; 2 large packets of letters, news items and responses (1964-1965) re/ "inquiry on behalf of a constituent's daughter," a musically talented seventh grade student in Austria, using the Fulbright grant system; a conservative constituent's alarmist information on alleged U.S. lack of security and other problems; a large packet of corresp. and other material re/ a constituent's suggestion for using U.S. reserve ships for a technical training program in Latin America; and State Department information on briefings, correspondence, telephone inquiries, immigration & other materials.
