A large collection of letters, statements, petitions, news clippings, information applications & other items. Examples are: letters (Mar.-May 1961) from San Diego constituent Miss Mary Ann Sullivan, Congressman Wilson, Donald R. Harney (Chief, Examining Div., Bureau of Operational Div., U.S. Civil Service Commission), William L. Ross, M.D. (Div. of Personnel, Public Health Service, HEW) re/ registered nurse Miss Sullivan's application for Civil Service work abroad and interest in the Peace Corps; letters (Mar.-Apr. 1961) from Congressman Wilson & Bill Moyers (Associate Director, Peace Corps) re/ a La Mesa constituent's request to honor "Dr. Frank C. Sec., Dept. of State) & Bill Moyers (Associate Dir., Peace Corps) re/ responses to constituent R. W. Wheelock's criticism of the Peace Corps; letters (Aug.-Sept. 1961) from constituent Mrs. Heston Wilson & Congressman Wilson and attached PETITIONS opposing Senate Bill 2000; letters (Sept. 1961) from constituent Philip E. Neary (Dean Witter & Co.) & Wilson & attached copy of an editorial from the Evening Tribune re/ opposition to Senate Bill 2000 and the Peace Corps; letters (Sept. & Oct. 1961) from constituent Robert Newell and Wilson re/ criticism of the Peace Corps and encouraging private charitable agencies to handle foreign aid programs; letters (Oct.-Nov. 1961) from Congressman Wilson and Jim Gibson (Office of Public Affairs, Peace Corps) re/ a response for a SDSC Placement Officer stressing the benefits of the Peace Corps; letters (Nov.-Dec. 1961) from constituent Miss Judith Munson, Wilson & Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. (Dir., Peace Corps) re/ Miss Munson's suggestion that Peace Corps members "be able to read, write and speak the language of their host country;" copies of Peace Corps, "Advance Information" to the "Honorable Bob Wilson" listing members of the Peace Corps scheduled for departure to Ecuador, Columbia, Honduras, Nepal, The Dominican Republic & Ethiopia in November; letters (June-Aug. 1961) from constituent J.L. Murray, Congressman Wilson & Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. (Dir. Peace Corps) & attached copy of Paul F. Geren's "Crisis of Communism" speech to the Southern Baptist Convention in San Francisco on June 7 – an excellent rejoinder to Mr. Murray's alarmist conservative take on Dr. Geren's message; a letter (3/19/62) from Congressman John Taber (36th Dist. N.Y.) opposing the Peace Corps; a dozen constituent queries regarding a relationship between the Peace Corps and the UN and Sargent Shriver's response (JuneAug. 1962); and a copy of a 10 page "Peace Corps Volunteer Questionnaire."
