Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, telegrams, memos, memorandum, brochures, pamphlets & other items. These are not organized chronologically. Examples are: a large packet of letters and telegrams (July-Sept. 1963) from Congressman Wilson, the Dept. of Agriculture's Office of Rural Areas Development, Farmers Home Administration, & Rural Electrification Administration & La Jolla constituent Harry L. Summers regarding responses to Mr. Summers plans for 4300 acre ranch in Southeast Ramona which he now proposed to develop for other uses; a packet of material sent to Wilson regarding Forest Recreation For Profit & Financing Area Redevelopment & other publications; a packet of corresp. (Apr.-May 1963) from Congressmen Lionel Van Deerlin and Wilson, El Cajon constituent Hugh James Mullen (Owner, Lariat Café, Highway 80), George A. Randis (Financial Asst. Div., SBA) & Alvin P. Meyers (Regional Dir., SBA) re/ Docket No. L-365.912-LA and the agency's inability at this time to "find a basis for assisting" Mr. Mullin in a small business loan; other topics and issues in this folder are: ineligibility of The Farabee Press of El Cajon to qualify for a SBA loan; a large packet of material related to SBA Docket #L-366-55-LA and Western Tile Co., Inc.; letters (Sept.- Oct.) from the United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County's inquiry regarding the HillBurton program for construction of a new facility; corresp. re/ attorney for constituent problems with housing in Fireside Park (Lot 68, Medallion Terrace Unit No. 13) & responses from Wilson and government agencies; an El Cajon constituent's inquiry re/ special Armed Services loans for medical students; Realtor Frank C. Daniel and Pacific Beach Town Council requests Wilson assistance regarding inquiry as to a shopping redevelopment plan; misunderstanding by constituent as to loan policies and such agencies as FHA and Federal Reserve System; SBA, Wilson and constituent corresp. (Oct.) re/ complaints, strong language and dissatisfactions; letters (Feb.-Mar.) re/ YMCA inquiry as to Federal funds for prevention of juvenile delinquency; inquiry from Linda Vista Baptist College re/ purchase of federal land in 1956 and danger of losing the property; letters and news clipping re/ government loan rates vs. private sector & cutback on federal loans; the owners of the North Park Health Club seek Wilson's assistance in obtaining a small business loan & are frustrated by recent CA freeway notification of property condemnation; 19 page SBA Press Release (4/30/63) with listings of names, locations, amount, type of loan and nature of business – over $26 million in loans during March; letters (June & July) re/ Export-Import Bank, a proposed $62 million loan for construction of a steel mill in the Philippines & its relation to the Philippine National Power Corporation; letters and news clippings (2/63) regarding federal urban renewal encouraged by San Diegans, but Wilson indicates projects like Ocean Beach Renewal and Zoo annex in San Pasquale Valley should be handled by local support; letters (Mar. 1962-Jan. 1963) regarding SBA loan approval for University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc.
