Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, official Navy notices, listings and statements, telegrams, & news clippings. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a number of copies of the Dept. of the Navy, Bureau of Yards and Docks, Real Estate Division's Acquisition Projects and Disposal Projects for various locations in the United States; a copy of "Navy Military Family Housing Projects PL 765/83 . . . 25 September 1956;" telegrams (5/12/56) from San Diego Mayor Charles Dail and Congressman Wilson re/ problems concerning growth of city adjacent to North Island and Miramar Naval Air Stations; a letter (6/30/56) from Wilson to RAdm. Charles C. Hartman (Commandant Eleventh Naval District) re/ Wilson was flying to San Diego next week and would like to discuss issues involving the "Tijuana situation" and the "transportation storage lot at West Point Loma Boulevard and Midway Drive;" a letter (5/7/56) from J.E. Bryce (President protem, Midway Chamber of Commerce) & Wilson's reply (5/16.56) re/ "desirability of the elimination of a Navy surplus storage depot in Midway;" other issues and topics in this folder are: concerns about Fifth Street Navy Landing; letters, memorandum & news clipping (July-Aug. 1956) re/ "narcotics situation in San Diego County" & Navy Shore Patrol cooperation with law enforcement; packet of letters and copy of El Cajon Valley News advertisement (Mar. 1956) promoting careers in the Navy by Fleet Reserve Assn.; letters (Dec. 1955-Jan. 1956) re/ Bureau of Yards and Docks "with respect to the matter of piping at Camp Pendleton;" letters (Apr. 1956) re/ "Feasibility Survey for LongRange Development and Utilization of the Bay of San Diego;" letters (Nov. 1956) re/ cancellation of Poinsettia Bowl Game; letters (Jan.,Mar. & Aug. 1956) re/ Wilson's assistance "in having stricken from the Military Public Works Bill the proposed land acquisition at the Port Chicago Navy Magazine" & the advisability of finding an alternative location; letters (12/56) from San Diego Chamber of Commerce & Mott & Associates (Wash. D.C.) re/ San Diego Bay Development; letter (12/20/56) re/ land development potential near jet air base in Holtville; letters (Nov.-Dec. 1956) re/ "new ship yard agreement" equalizing Navy and private wage scales; letters (Jan.-Feb. 1957) re/ Navy Exchange wage scale at NTC; telephone message & telegram (9/13 & 11/ 20/57) re/ ships being inactivated & home port changes; letters (Jan.-Feb. 1957) – the Christian Business Men's Committee wish to hold a "meeting aboard one of the carriers or another large ship in the harbor;" telephone message (5/10/57) from Dr. Gilmore re/ "The cost of the new 1,000 bed addition is $7, 775, 000" and details of the facility
