A collection of letters, notes & other items. Examples are: a letter (2/25/65) from Harry F. Armstrong (Pres., Naval Repair Facility Activation Assn.) & a reply (3/15/65) from RAdm. John M. Alford (Office of the Secretary of the Navy) re/ "Navy's Task Force on Military Personnel Retention;" letters (3/65) from Congressman Wilson & Under Secretary of the Navy Kenneth E. BeLieu responding to inquiry from J. Thomas Erchul (San Diego Trust and Savings Bank) re/ the future of Ream Field; letters (3/65) from RAdm. W. A. Brockett (Chief, BuShips), Congressman Wilson and attached copy of "Name Sources For Naval Ships – Combatant" (6 pages); office notes (3/24/65) "From Washington Post Today – The Committee also approved an amendment to scrap a legal requirement that the Navy give at least 35% of its ship repair work to private shipyards;" a letter (4/12/65) from RAdm. F. J. Brush (Acting OCNO, Logistics) to Wilson re/ inquiry from Wilson constituent concerning the role of the U. S. Navy in San Diego, especially policies as to a bridge or tunnel to Coronado (3 pp.); other topics and issues in this folder are: letters (Mar.-Apr. 1965) are responses to critical inquiries from Navy wives as to the operating schedules of the USS Monticello (LSD 35) & USS Magoffin (APA 199); letters & news clipping (Feb.-Mar. 1965) re/ discussion on "the second entrance to the harbor and the future of North Island, Ream Field and Miramar Naval Air Station" that are concerns of the San Diego Realty Board; letters (Mar.-Apr. 1965) re/ constituent concerns, and responses from the Navy, as to the bridge to Coronado, potential closing of the Naval Repair Facility, homeporting ships to Alameda and Long Beach; letters (Apr. & May 1965) re/ reassignment and retirement of Navy friends of Wilson, letters (Mar.-May 1965) from disgruntled constitutent & small business owner regarding competition from Post Exchange at NAS North Island; a large stapled packet of corresp. (Mar.-June 1965) re/ AEC, nuclear powered ships in San Diego Bay and competition with Alameda and Long Beach for homeporting these ships, especially the USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25); letters (7/65) re/ controversy over Operation Sailor Hat and the alleged "detonation of one million pounds of TNT on a small Hawaiian Island" – "100 miles southeast of Honolulu;" letters (11/65) re/ the extended overhaul of USS Bon Homme Richard – it can not be done in San Diego, but her homeport will remain here.
