Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, memorandum, reports, bulletins, a magazine reprint, telegrams & a news paper excerpt. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a letter (3/5/59) from Congressman Wilson to RAdm. A. G. Mumma (Chief, Bureau of Ships) requesting "a report as to the extent of subsidence at Long Beach, California for the past few years;" a letter (1/30/59) from Joseph F. Bishop (President, Board of Harbor Commissioners, The Port of Long Beach) "To All Operators in the Wilmington Oil Field . . . . re: 'Cooperation of the Oil Industry with the Subsidence Control Program;'" "Memorandum" (1/23/59) from S. M. Roberts (Administrator, Subsidence Control & Repressurization Division) to Board of Harbor Commissioners re/ information and listing of companies who have signed well data releases; copies of Monthly Subsidence Control Report December – 1959 & January 1960; City of Long Beach Subsidence Bulletin for Jan. 30, 1959; copies of the Port of Long Beach Subsidence Bulletin for Jan. 15, 29, Feb. 12 & 29, 1960; "Long Beach: Where Oil and Water Do Mix!" - "Reprinted from the Winter, 1959, issue of Harbor Lights Magazine;" letters (Jan.-Mar. 1959) from Wilson & the Secretary of the Navy, Thomas S. Gates, Jr. re/ evaluation of the future of the Long Beach Naval Shipyard "in light of continuing subsidence;" letters & information sheet (Jan.-June 1959) "concerning subsidence at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard and the possible effect of this subsidence on future Navy plans;" letters, notes & news articles from the Coronado Journal (Feb., 1959) re/ "opportunities for San Diego if the Long Beach yard were closed down;" a March 24, 1959 letter from Degolyer and MacNaughton (Dallas, Texas) to The Port of Long Beach re/ a request to obtain a statement by Harbor Department consultants as to when they expect subsidence to stop; letters & telegrams (1957& 1958) re/ topic of Long Beach Naval Shipyard and subsidence; letters & telegrams (July-Aug. 1960) re/ need for study of "scientific salaries in the Government and in private industry" to help the government obtain key scientists that are needed.
