Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, telegrams, news clippings, city of Coronado map, memorandum & reports. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: two letters (Feb. & Mar. 1954) from RAdm. A. Soucek (Chief of the Bureau of Aeronautics) to Congressman Wilson re/ reduction of employees at the Naval Air Station, San Diego; a small packet of letters (Mar. & Apr. 1954) re/ concerns from constituents about the proposed reduction in force at NAS; a letter (6/10/54) from San Diego constituent Alvie D. Godwin & Wilson's reply (6/18/54) re/ "proposed upgrading of inspectors who are GS-8 and below;" a letter (30 Jul 1954) from RAdm. Sucek to Wilson indicating that "a restudy of the manpower situation at the Naval Air Station, San Diego, now makes possible the cancellation of the contemplated reductions;" a letter (6/17/54) from Ray W. Booth (Aviation Committee, S.D. Chamber of Commerce) thanking the NAS Commanding Officer for a tour of the Overall and Repair facilities at NAS; a letter (6/20/54) from LTJG E. C. Roche, Jr. (Publicity Mgr., 1954 Navy Relief Rodeo) to Wilson re/ the rodeo at Navy Athletic Field to be held on August 27-29; other topics and issues in this folder are: letters & news clippings (Jan.-June 1954) re/ support for naval personal, concerns about reductions in force and other issues; 3 page letter (1/18/54) from Special Services, Naval Movie Theater, Coronado, Calif. to Sen. William Knowland re/ "Brief Details" in terms of origins in 1942 to date in response to conservative fears of competition with private theaters & attached map of City of Coronado & showing locations of the two Navy theaters in relation to the Coronado Theater; letters, memorandum & telegram (Mar.- June, 1954) re/ concerns and reassurances about cut-back at NAS, Navy League concerns, comparing Alameda with San Diego & other issues; letters & OIR Notice 12250 re/ "Establishment of a new Group III, Laborer, Helper and Mechanic Service Rating;" small packet of materials (Feb.-Mar. 1954) re/ Congressman Rees Committee and "Brief of the Items to be Presented for the . . .
