Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, office notes, memos, periodical articles, news clippings & telegrams. Examples are: a letter (8/24/62) from Coronado constituent Mrs. David Gauger, Wilson's reply (9/5/62) & Memo (n.d.) "do not buck to Cokely – just file – FG Navy hospital" re/ Mrs. Gauger's comments about "the deplorable situation of the Medical Facilities for the dependents of servicemen here in the San Diego area;" letters & memorandum (10/62) from National City constituent Mrs. M. R. Young, Congressman Wilson & RAdm. Cokely (Commanding Officer, U. S. Naval Hospital, San Diego) re/ dissatisfaction with a Navy wife's 8 hour wait at the hospital for treatment; letters (9/62) re/ a retired Navy BMC is concerned about news that the "Naval Hospital has 'clipped short' a fringe benefit, the filling of prescriptions certified by a civilian physician for the armed services and their Dependents;" an excerpt "From The Crow's Nest," The Voice of the Enlisted Man on Capitol Hill & Wilson's reply (9/12/62) re/ cut backs and the "clipped short" concept; letters (8/62) from Coronado constituents Capt. George Knuepfer (retired) & Lt Commander K.H. Konavin (retired), Wilson & attached news clipping (n.d., n.s.) re/ "ordering of non-stock drugs and the filling of prescriptions written by civilian physicians at the Naval Hospital;" letters (Aug. & Sept. 1962) from Imperial Beach constituent Mrs. Thomas, Wilson & RAdm. Cokely re/ her complaints regarding prenatal and post-natal care and the problem of caring for children of waiting mothers; letters & telegram (Aug. & Sept. 1962) re/ a delay in "our son's appointment for a tonsillectomy at the San Diego Naval Hospital" & sincere gratitude to Wilson for his understanding and assistance in resolving this problem; other issues and topics in this folder are: letters & note (2/62) re/ dependent care at the Naval Hospital; several letters (July-Aug.) re/ ordering civilian written prescriptions at Naval Hospital, complaints about this issue and conservative antiKennedy remarks; "Memorandum – 17 August 1962 from the Office of the Surgeon General, Navy Attention: Miss Jane Jamison: Twenty five copies of the Surgeon General's letter [8/15/62] to Congressman Wilson are enclosed" – 12 copies remain in this folder; Memorandum (8/22/62) to Mr. Wilson from Jane re/ attached letter from the Surgeon General in response to inquiry; letters (6/62) from a Chula Vista constituent and Wilson's reply re/ accusations of "malpractice, ineptitude, & just plain cruelty" … at U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego;" letters (May-June) re/ complaints of San Diego constituent and Navy widow about lack of service at Navy Hospital; letters (May-June 1962) from National City constituent and others re/ inadequate diagnosis and treatment at the Navy Hospital; letters (4/62) from Councilman Allen Hitch and Wilson re/ treatment of WWI veteran denied at Navy Hospital & Wilson's attempt to locate a veteran's hospital in San Diego; letters (Feb.-Mar) from Wilson and Under Secretary of the Navy Paul B. Fay re/ obtaining medical care program for dependents in the San Diego area; letters (Dec. 1961- Jan. 1962) from various constituents & replies from Wilson and Navy personnel re/ treatment and needs at the Navy Hospital.
