Federal Government: Navy – Naval Repair Facility, HR 11289 – Shipyards, 1962
Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, other corresp. and copies of the Congressional Record, Vol. 108, No. 60 for Wednesday, April 18, 1962 – House – (pp. 6359-6445) and Appendix (pp. A2999-A3056) – regarding the Department of Defense Appropriation Bill. The predominance of the corresp. in this folder consists of pro and con viewpoints as to HR 11289 and the "65% navy shipyards and 35% private ship yards," supposedly to save money by boosting federal dollars into the private sector. According to Wilson the legislation favoring this balance was passed by a unanimous House vote. The letters are separated between those in favor of increasing private sector repair work through federal dollars and those favoring retention of naval shipyard employment.
