Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, telegrams, fact sheets & other items. Examples are: a packet of corresp. (1957) regarding an employee's complaint about practices occurring in the Public Works Transportation Center, Naval Station, San Diego; the remainder of material in Folder 15 focuses on 1962 in terms of extensive comments from constituents, Wilson, the Navy Department and others: Examples are:"Memorandum for: Commandant, 11th Naval District, January 30, 1962 from American Federation of Government Employees" re/ "Planned consolidation of public works maintenance facilities in San Diego area;" a copy of a letter (2 Feb. 1962) from RAdm. P. Corradi (Acting Chief of Bureau of Yards and Docks) to Wilson "regarding the establishment of a Public Works Center at San Diego;" letters (Jan.-Feb. 1962) from O.A. Taylor (U.S. Naval Hospital), Congressman Wilson & RAdm. P. Corradi (Bureau of Yards and Docks) re/ negative comments on planned consolidation of public works; letters (3/62) from Congressman Wilson, RAdm. M.E. Arnold (Commandant 11th Naval Dist.) Re/ Public Works Center & possible loss of jobs; a large collection of telegrams and letters regarding the Public Works Center concept (Jan.-Nov. 1962). Most of constituent commentaries are in opposition to the proposed center & its negative effectives on the Naval Hospital maintenance situation; letters (Apr. & May, 1962) from R.E. Davis (President, Local 63, Nat. Fed. Of Federal Employees) Cmd. H. Oldham (Public Works Transportation Center, 11th Naval District) re/ inquiry over "contracting out of auto body shop work at the Public Works Transportation Center" and resultant layoffs of employees.
