A large collection of letters, telegrams, government materials & other items. Examples are: a small number of information bulletins from the Public Affairs Office of the Office of Economic Opportunity re/ Facts About Vista Volunteers, Job Corps Facts, Quick Facts About the War on Poverty and The War On Poverty – A Hometown Fight: letters (Dec. 1964-Jan. 1965) from constituent John K. Perkins (General Atomic, E-122), Congressman Wilson & Gillis W. Long (Asst. Dir., OEO) re/ an inquiry from Mr. Perkins "which concerns the Work-Study Program under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964;" letters (Feb.-Apr. 1965) from constituent Miss Jan K. Bohren (S.D. County social worker), Congressman Wilson & Gillis W. Long (Asst. Dir., OEO) re/ an inquiry from Miss Bohren and sending her a copy of "The War on Poverty-A Hometown Fight;" a telegram (7/21/65) from Congressman Ayers to Wilson & attached copy of pp. 16879- 16884 from the Congressional Record—House for July 20, 1965 re/ Republican political concerns with "a list of people Sargent Shriver has hired as consultants and advisors;" other items in this folder are: letters (July-Aug.) re/ a request from Congressman Gibbons (TX) asking Wilson how the Economic Opportunity Act could be improved & a request from San Diego Unified School District for pamphlets and information on the Economic Opportunity Act; letters (Sept.-Oct. 1965) & news clipping re/ a Republican conservative's "concern over Federal funds used by Anti-poverty program officials to bail out those accused of crimes;" letters (Oct.-Nov. 1965) re/ a constituent's false alarm that "the Women's Centers Division, Job Corps and the Job Corps Centers for Women located throughout the country" would be discontinued; telegram (11/24/65) & OEO Public Affairs notice re/ press conference & issuing of "federal grant of $182,731 to finance the first War on Poverty project in San Diego County;" copies (12/16/65) of OEO Project No. CAP 7015 notice for St. Rita's Catholic Church's 60 children & the Chula Vista City Schools District's 195 children; 2 letters (Dec. 1965) from the Economic Opportunity Commission of San Diego County re/ "Head Start projects for Chula Vista Schools and St. Rita's Church" & "Component Projects: Head Start, Head Start Follow-through;" a letter (1/1968) from Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey to Bob re/ I am pleased to send you two copies of the Vice President's Handbook for Local Officials;" two large folders containing letters, application forms, community statistics, map and other items from the "Neighborhood Service Centers Submitted by: San Diego Advisory Committee on Mexican Americans Participants not Recipients" regarding the Chula Vista City School District's "Head Start Follow-Through" & the San Diego County's "4 Multi Service Centers. . . in low income neighborhoods."
