Scope and Contents

A collection of letters and notes. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a letter (10/10/63) from G. W. Sears (Senior V.P., The First National Bank) & Congressman Wilson's reply (11/14/63) re/ discussions about benefits to commercial banks in proposed legislation – H. R. 5845, 7878 & 8247; a letter (7/26/63) from Donald C. Heffner (Attorney at Law) & Wilson's reply 8/5/63) re/ concerns about S. 1642 which amends the Securities Act of 1933 & the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 as to disclosure requirements; a letter (7/26/63) from Evart Goodwin (Percy H. Goodwin Co.) & Wilson's reply (8/6/63) re/ Wilson supports Goodwin's "belief that private lenders need protection . . . against the multitudinous competition from government;" letters (Oct.- Nov. 1963) from constituent William Sudbeck, Wilson & C. Canby Balderston (V.P. Board of Govenors of the Federal Reserve System) re/ complaints about the Federal Reserve system and a response from Mr. Balderston; a small packet of letters & notes (May 1963) from three prominent San Diego bankers and Wilson re/ opposition to increasing FDIC coverage from $10,000 to $25,000; a letter (11/21/63) from J.T. Watson (Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, U.S. Treasury) & enclosed memorandum regarding statement, press release and tabulation from the of Comptroller of Currency James J. Saxon regarding the rapid expansion of banking in California – "a period of digestion now appears indicated;" additional issues and topics in this folder are: concerns about Federal Home Loan Bank regulations; resolution adopted by the Washington Bankers Assn. in June; a large packet of corresp. (July 1962-Apr. 1963) re/ USANCO stock, losses by investor and responses from the SEC; & concerns of a Coronado constituent re/ "the status of your savings account with First Fidelity Savings and Loan Association, Inc."
