Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, postal cards, memorandum, reports, newsletter, telegrams, press releases & other items. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a letter (9/18/62) from Jose Miro Cardone (President, Consejo Revolutionario De Cuba), "Memorandum Re: Strategy to liberate Cuba and restore peace in the Hemisphere" (3 pp.) & "Statement of the Cuban Revolutionary Council Concerning the Forthcoming Informal Meeting of Foreign Ministers" (7 pp.); postal card (12/18/61) from constituent Mrs. Annie L. Begg & Wilson's reply (1/5/62) re/ anti-Castro commentary; letters (1/62) from Miles D. Kennedy (Dir. The American Legion) & Congressman Wilson & enclosed report of the American Legion's Commission on National Security (24 pp.); a letter (1/16/62) from H. H. McClintic Jr. (Pittsburg, PA) & Wilson's reply (1/17/62) re/ antiCastro commentary and suggestions for action; a letter (1/30/62) from constituent Fred C. Boyer & Wilson's reply (2/7/62) re/ "I wholeheartedly share your concerns with respect to the foreign policy being projected by President Kennedy and his Advisors. . . .;" a letter (1/29/62) from constituent David B. Allabough & Wilson's reply (2/13/62) re/ query about why invasion failed and Wilson's responses; a collection of letters and commentary slips from constituents and others and Wilson's replies (Jan.-Mar.1962) re/ opinions based on Wilson's "recent article about Cuba in the American Legion magazine" – all supported the idea of taking "direct unilateral action to halt Communist Penetration of Latin America;" additional items in this folder are: more letters and commentaries re/ Cuba, prisoners and taking unilateral action to halt communist penetration in Latin America; letters & news clipping (Feb.-Mar.1962) re/ State Dept. reply to constituent's query about the Platt Amendment and Cuba; telegrams and letter (Apr.-May 1962) re/ constituent suggestion to "smother [Castro's] communistic attitude by kindness" using surplus wheat, corn, etc.; letters – primarily from the American Maritime Assn. – (Mar.- Sept. 1962) re/ recession by executive order 8633 (1941) giving JCS control of commerce with Guam and how this order relates to the current crisis with Cuba & PL 480 cargoes; a letter (9/25/62) from the Dept. of State re/ U.S. Policy Toward Cuba, The Monroe Doctrine & Action Against Communist Subversion in The Hemisphere.
