Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, reports, postal cards & telegrams. All of the corresp. in this file concern "the raid by Mexican Federal authorities on an alleged gambling casino known as the Club Deportivo Panamerican, in the Rosarito Beach Hotel" on Sunday, January 25. Over 30 constituents sent protest letters and telegrams and Wilson responded with concern and action. Many called for closing the border after those arrested had been released. Two other packets of corresp. are: a letter (2/17/59) from William B. Macomber, Jr. (Assist. Secretary, Dept. of State) & his "enclosed report from our Consulate at Tijuana" (2/6/59, 13 pp.); and letters (Feb.-Apr. 1959) from "the workers of Kin Tel San Diego," Congressman Wilson & William B. Macomber, Jr. (Asst. Sec., State Dept.) re/ protests from constituents on "the condition in Tijuana Mexico, in which an American citizen is not given treatment worthy of a visitor to Mexico."
