Scope and Contents

A collection of letters & telegrams. A large number of these are primarily focusing on a dispute between the Eastman Cooperative Enterprise, Inc., a California corporation organized by World War II veterans for the purchase of several of the multiple dwelling units for sale by the Public Housing Administration Office in Linda Vista, and the HHFA Administration's decision in Washington to sell lots 5 & 7, Block 47, Subdivision 8 CAL 4092 to another buyer. Other items are: letters (1/56) from Congressman Wilson & Charles E. Slusser (Commissioner, PHA) re/ Wilson's appeal for a constituent who disputed the price he was charged for his house in Linda Vista; a letter (3/13/56) from constituent Mrs. M. O. Harrison and Wilson's reply (3/22/56) re/ Mrs. Harrison's appeal to Wilson that with nine children in her family she was forced to move by the sale of her dwelling to those with higher priorities, such as veterans; a letter (3/6/56) from Rev. Norman J. Jackson, Jr. (Second Baptist Church, Linda Vista) and Wilson's reply 3/20/56) re/ the need for housing for those in Class 5 -- large families, low income and not veterans. The City & the PHA were contemplating using some units for these occupants; a letter (4/10/56) from constituent C. L. Foster, Jr. & Wilson's reply (4/17/56) re/ "some 400 families presently occupying demountable housing in Linda Vista who will be forced to vacate the houses because of the disposal program of the Public Housing Administration." Wilson indicated the City had taken on some housing units for these families with large number of children.
