Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, reports, a pamphlet, news clipping & office notes. Examples are: letters (Jan.-Mar. 1960) from Wilson & RAdm. J.L. Chew (Dir., Shore Establishment, Office of CNO) re/ a constituent and wife of a Navy enlisted man living in public housing had problems with installing a picket fence; letters (Mar.-Ap. 1960) from constituent H. H. Horton & Wilson's reply re/ complaints about depreciation of the dollar and rental property vacancies; a letter (4/28/60) from Edward L. Wilson (Managing Dir., Mobile Home Manufacturing Assn.), attached copy of an 8 page brochure "Housing—No problem for These Servicemen," & Wilson's reply (5/2/60) re/ a promotional brochure for a "solution to housing for thousands of our military families;" a copy of Economic Research Bureau of San Diego, San Diego Housing Report (Mar. 1961, Vol. 1, No. 1) re/ "Highlights" for residential construction; note and letter (7/24/61) re/ "Navy wife who wants to be of service to the [Republican] Party;" letter (7/6/61) from constituent Mrs. Wynice Rogers & Wilson's reply (7/17/61) re/ "your problem in obtaining Navy housing at Ream Field;" a letter (7/9/61) from constituent Mrs. Jack Dodd & office Memorandum from Wilson (no date) re/ lack of legislation to increase housing allotment & Mrs. Dodd's interest in politics and helping the Republican Party; letter (12/12/61) from Coronado constituent Mrs. Edith K. Anderson & Wilson's reply (1/5/62) re/ "someone in Washington telling a service wife to patronize one of two real estate firms in Coronado" and Wilson's denial of any connections to this; other topics and commentaries for 1962 & 1963 are: letters (Mar.-May 1962) re/ Gov. Brown and more Capehart housing in Imperial Beach; Navy responses to this; Mortgage Bankers, S.D. Building Contractor Assn., Apartment & Rental Owners' Assn. & OW Cotton Co. interest in news that new housing was being proposed for the Naval Station and Camp Pendleton totaling $16,200,000 – "Vacancy rates are high [&] rental owners, in general, rebel at additional federal housing unless it is obviously warranted;" letters (June-Aug. 1962) re/ proposed Military Construction Bill – "This housing will not be of the Capehart variety. It will be owned by the military; news clipping – Evening Tribune (6/20/62) – Housing for Amphib. Base; constituent concerns about rental increases at the Bellevue Naval Rental Housing Project & replies from Wilson and the Dept. of the Navy; letters (Aug.- Oct. 1962) re/ maintenance procedures at various Navy Housing Projects in San Diego; and a letter (11/4//63) from Mrs. Randall Sult (Beeville, TX) & Wilson's reply 11/19/63) re/ a navy wife's problems with accessing Navy housing.
