A collection of letters and one press release. Examples are: a letter (1/1/57) from La Mesa constituent Mrs. Jay V. Sperry & Wilson's reply (1/29/57) re/ reference to San Diego State College's Gerontology Dept. and teaching nursing to recent Hungarian immigrants; five page copy of a press release (1/31/57) from The White House re/ need for emergency legislation to correct the Immigration and "Nationality Act, especially to help the people of Hungary; a letter (2/1/57) from Leo C. Beebe (The President's Committee for Hungarian Refugee Relief) re/ thanking the Women's Republican Club of El Cajon for their $10 contribution; a letter (2/7/57) from the National City Home Protective League & Wilson's reply (2/11/57) re/ concerns about too lax an immigration policy that undercuts American worker employment; a letter (2/28/57) from Chula Vista constituent Col. T. W. Essig (Ret.) & Wilson's reply (3/14/57) re/ Col. Essig's fears of a Zionist-Jewish migration from Hungary; a letter (2/4/57) from Paul St. Pierre (Chairman of the Hungarian Fund, Associated Students, SDSC) & Wilson's reply (3/18/57) re/ "efforts to find transportation for the Hungarian refugees you hope to bring to San Diego as a result of your commendable program;" additional items are: San Diego Audubon Society & State Dept. corresp. re/ boat trip & permission to land on the Mexican owned Coronado Islands; further corresp. regarding Hungarian refugees; corresp. between White House and Wilson re/ immigration legislation; & a letter (2/2/58) from Chairman Emanuel Celler (Committee on the Judiciary) to advise colleagues that INS Commissioner Swing "has agreed to put into effect certain arrangements pertaining to aliens for whose relief private legislation was introduced in the Eighty-fifth Congress."
