Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters & government documents. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a letter (1/3/58) from Chairman Emanuel Celler (Committee on the Judiciary) to colleagues re/ "the effect of Public Law 85-316 . . . insofar as it relates to immigration problems arising in your District" and attached copy of "Outline of Certain Benefits Available to Aliens Under Public Law 85-316;" a copy of Department of State, "General Information Regarding Visas For Immigrants;" copies of letters (Dec. 1959) from Wilson to "recently naturalized [citizens] in San Diego" & attached copies of "List of persons naturalized in United States District Court, San Diego, California . . . 1959;" letters (4/19 & 4/20/59) from Francis C. Ojswaldt (Acting Dist. Dir., INS, Los Angeles) & Congressman Wilson & "enclosed list of California residents who were naturalized as United States citizens during March, 1959;" Christmas letter & photograph (12/28/59) from Mr. & Mrs. Sam H. Weiss & Ira Lee to Wilson thanking him for the "lovely letter of welcome to our 'new citizen,' our adopted son, Ira Lee;" a letter (8/20/59) from Kenneth D. Zumwalt (Feature Editor, The San Diego Union) to Wilson – "Thank you for your nice letter to my wife in connection with her recent naturalization;" letters (11/59) from constituent Pfc. James Tarrant, Francis G. Knight (Dir., Passport Office, Dept. of State) & Margaret M. Young (Secretary to Congressman Wilson) re/ Pfc. Tarrant assignment to an 18 month tour of duty in Ethiopia and his wish to have his wife join him during this tour; Additional items and topics are: letters (Oct.-Nov. 1959) re/ an El Cajon constituent's angry concern over delays at the Tijuana Border & the INS agent's actions. Wilson's reply supported the agent; letters (11/59) re/ Republican constituents praise the party and request sponsorship for Formosa resident to immigrate to U.S.; letters (7/ & 8/59) concerning Lakeside constituents and misunderstanding about recent naturalization in San Diego; letters re/ filing of Alien Registration Cards; letters (3/59) re/ information on need for a private bill & family that survived the persecution and massacre of Armenians after World War I; letters (1/59) Chula Vista constituent complains about lack of clear information on Constitution & Bill of Rights in current INS booklet of instructions; letters (12/58 & 1/59) re/ Copley News Service employee receives assistance from Wilson facilitating a relative's being "granted the long-desired visa;" a letter (6/30/59) re/ testimony before Senate Subcommittee on Immigration PL 85-316 and Korean-American orphan program; a copy of the Presbyterian Mission Executive Committee Report, re/ "Sixteen-Page Document From Korea" (3 pp.), Executive Committee, Korean Mission's "Report On Proxy Adoptions of Mixed-Blood Children," Seoul, April 1959 & Documents A-F; copies of Public Law 86-363; H. R. 5896 – "An Act To provide for the entry of certain relatives of United States citizens and lawfully resident aliens; "Report No. 965 – Relating to Permanent Residence and Deportation of Certain Aliens;" & "American Consulate General, Hong Kong, B.C.C. – "Essential requirements to be met by passport applicants who are born abroad of an American parent . . . ."
