Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, notes, Congressional Report & INS list. Examples are: a “List of Persons Naturalized in the United States District Court, San Diego, California During the Month of February 1965;” letters (Sept. 1964-Feb. 1965) from Imperial Beach constituent Mrs. J. Russo, Wilson & A. E. Edgar (Officer in Charge, S.D., INS) re/ “inquiry of September 25, 1964, concerning the naturalization of Andrea Scarcelia, who resides” in La Mesa. He was admitted to citizenship on February 5, 1965; letters (Dec. 1963-Feb. 1965) re/ responses to inquiry by constituent G. T. Corrao “into the visa problem of Mr. Antonio Alioto,” Mr. Corrao’s brotherlaw; letters (Feb. 1964-Mar. 1965) re/ responses to inquiry from constituent Mrs. Isabel B. Olson concerning “the situation of Miss Nancy Chenge-Kim, a Korean, born and a citizen of Mexico;” a letter (4/5/65) from constituent Mrs. Faith A. Kruber & attached news clipping from the San Diego Patriotic Society re/ criticism of the administrtation’s immigration bill, race issues and the War on Poverty program; a letter & memo (4/10/65) from former San Diegan Kuresa L. Eseroma & Wilson’s reply (4/23/65) re/ this family’s experiences in American Samoa and Mr. Eseroma’s “thoughts on the hiring of [Samoan] Nationals in preference to bringing in foreigners to perform because of the Dept. of the Army’s entry permit requirements; a letter (6/1/65) from Reverend Richard N. Avery & Wilson’s reply (6/8/65) re/ the need to have “more equitable distribution of quotas to all countries;” letter (8/2/65) from Francis G. Knight (Dir., Passport Office, Dept. of State to Mr. Gillenwaters (Wilson’s Admin. Asst.) re/ the relocation of the Los Angeles Passport Agency; letters (Feb. – Oct. 1965) re/ complications for a current resident of Tijuana in obtaining Social Security. Mr. Cruz entered the U.S. in 1916 and lived and worked in the United States for years, but was deported in 1958; one copy of 89th Cong., 1st Sess., Report No. 745 – “Amending the Immigration and Nationality Act, and for other purposes,” August 6, 1965, 50 pages.
