Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, telegrams & office notes. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a letter (4/23/56) from Robert F. Hale (American Consul General, Tijuana, Mexico) and Wilson’s reply (4/27/56) re/ “the immigration visa application of Maria Roldan de MIRANDA, who desires to enter the United States in order to accept employment as a domestic servant in the home of Captain Thomas H. Galbraith, U.S.M.C. of San Diego, California;” a letter (2/20/56) from Chula Vista constituent E. H. McCarthy, Jr. & Wilson’s telegram reply (2/29/56) re/ Wilson’s assistance in helping Mrs. McCarthy receive her passport & transmit it to the Navy; letters (Apr.-May 1956) from constituent Miss Laura M. Peper, Wilson & Francis G. Knight (Dir., Passport Office, Dept. of State) re/ Wilson’s assistance in obtaining a passport for Miss Peper, another complicated story going back to the 19th century; letters & telegrams (5/56) from constituent Seymour I. Monteso & Wilson re/ Mr. Monteso’s delay in obtaining his passport and Wilson’s assistance in obtaining it; 1 letter & 2 telegrams (6/56) from Robert G. Lloyd (Lt., USNR), his wife Catherine Lloyd & Wilson re/ Wilson’s assistance in helping Mrs. Lloyd and six children join Lt. Lloyd in the Philippines; letters (Apr.- May 1956) from La Jolla constituent Gary Hufbauer & Wilson re/ passport difficulty with Czech Embassy delays; other items in this folder: letter & telegram (5/56) re/ deep gratitude to Wilson for his help in “speeding my passport” from Pastor Gallegher, St. Rita’s Church; letter & sample message (5/56) re/ “deterioration of international relations, and particularly the responsibility of each American citizen who goes abroad;” letters & telegrams (6/56) re/ delayed passport & clerical error as to Wilson’s involvement; telegrams and letter (7/56) re/ La Mesa Travel Agency thanks Wilson for his assistance in resolving passport problem for Hildegarde & Mickey Montgomery; letters & immigration form (1955-1956) re/ “case of Shen Lane Chang, an applicant for a special nonquota immigrant visa under the provisions of the Refugee Relief Act of 1953;” letters (Apr. & May 1956) re/ another complicated story involving “I must prove the citizenship of my deceased husband to obtain a passport;” letters & office note (7/56) re/ Wilson’s assistance to a Chula Vista constituent seeking her husband in Mexico; telegrams (8/56) re/ Wilson’s assistance to La Mesa constituent James B. Beaty in obtaining passport for assignment to teach school in Guam; large stapled packet of letters, telegrams & office notes (July-Sept. 1956) re/ another complicated story of a deceased husband and a woman’s difficulty in proving his birth in the United States in order to obtain a passport; letters, office note & telegram (7/56) re/ lost passport and Wilson’s assistance in obtaining a new one; telegrams, Christmas card & letter (10/56) re/ Wilson’s assistance in helping a Navy wife obtain her passport & problem with transporting their vehicle overseas; letter (6/18/56) from Wilson to Frances G. Knight (Dir., Passport Office, State Dept.) re/ agency difficulties in having sufficient telephone numbers to meet the need of Congressmen responding to their constituents’ requests for passport assistance – delays of 15 to 45 minutes; letters & information from the State Dept. (7/56) re/ Press Release and letter from Dir. Knight and attached copy of statistics pertaining “to passports actually issued or renewed from January through June, l956” (13 pages); letters & a telegram (Mar.-Apr. 1957) re/ Wilson expedites passports at the request of the Falcon Travel Service.
