Scope and Contents

A collection of letters telegrams, office notes, telephone message slips & memos. Examples are: letters (Feb.-Mar. 1959) from constituent Frank A. Sohn (Accounts and Auditors), Congressman Wilson & Francis G. Knight (Dir., Passport Office, Dept. of State) re/ resolving inquiry about missing passport papers for a client of Mr. Sohn going clear back to the early 1900s; letters (Feb.-Mar. 1959) from constituent Mrs. Fred Renneker, Wilson & Francis G. Knight (Dir. Passport Office, Dept. of State) re/ resolving inquiry from Mrs. Renneker in obtaining a passport. Another example of the complicated process of passport application based on a 1922 law; Notice from Passport Office (5/12/59) re/ “Special telephone lines designated for Congressional calls to Passport Office,” by June 30, 1959, “Approximately 710,000 passports will have been issued or renewed;” letters (July-Oct. 1959) from Boyd H. Reynolds (Counselor on Immigration and Naturalization, Los Angeles), constituent Mr. Hom Lee, Wilson, John T. White (Chief, Foreign Operations Div., Passport Office) & Francis G. Knight (Dir., Passport Office) re/ complicated story of the State Department’s entreview of and disapproval of an application for citizenship executed at the American Consulate General in Hong Kong in 1954; other items in this folder are: letters (Jan.-Feb. 1960) re/ complications for a constituent in visiting relatives in East Germany; office note (4/8/60) re/ passport problem for editor Robert Blackwell; letters & memo (Mar.-May 1960) re/ divorce, court order & passport issue allowing a father to take his child abroad; memo & letters (Mar.- July 1960) re/ complications in obtaining passport because of marriage and lost page of document for resident of Stuttgart, Germany; memorandum & letters (8/60) re/ Wilson helps resolve passport problem for constituent; telegrams & a letter (12/60) re/ passport renewal for Falcon Travel Service’s clients; letters, memo & telegrams (1/61) re/ complications for passport being issued to Benson Bliss Hardy; telegrams (2/61) re/ Falcon Travel Service request to Wilson for expediting a client’s passport; letters 3/61) re/ Falcon Travel Service & Wilson’s assistance; letters (5/61) re/ issuance of “protective passport to your wife and son” for constituent Mr. Harvey Franken – they were in Habana, Cuba; telegrams (6/61) re/ expediting passports for clients of Falcon Travel Service; stapled copy of memorandum of call, letters & affidavit (June-July 1961) re/ complications in obtaining passports for a constituent’s wife and children because of his long residence and business in Peru; telegrams (12/61) re/ expediting passport; letters (6/62) re/ Wilson’s assistance to the Falcon Travel Service; memo & letters (Sept. – Oct. 1962) re/ Wilson’s assistance in helping a navy wife and son embark to join husband in the Philippines.
