A collection of letters, a resolution & 1 telegram. Examples are: letters & resolution (11/60- 1/61) from Winslow J. Curo (Diegueno Incorporated, Imperial, CA) & Congressman Wilson re/ a “Directors Resolution,” Nov. 13, 1960 at the Veterans Hall in El Cajon, CA “to terminate the functions and activities of the Indian Bureau in the State of California;” letters (11/60-3/61) from constituent C.H. Sommermeyer, Wilson & Asst. Commissioner of Indian Affairs E.J. Utz re/ response to Mr. Sommermeyer’s difficulty in locating the northern boundary of the Santa Ysabel Indian Reservation; letters (Jan.-Mar. 1961) from Chula Vista constituent Mrs. S. J. Hovanec , Wilson & Deputy Commissioner of Indian Affairs H. Rex Lee re/ the sale of certain allotted lands held by Mr. Hovanec on the Fort Hall Reservation in Idaho; a letter (2/12/61) from El Cajon constituent Purl Willis, attached Bureau of Indian Affairs, “Funds Requested in the Budget . . . For the State of California” & Wilson’s reply (3/16/61) re/ Mr. Willis’ continued frustrations with the BIA and the failure of both political parties to implement some version of “Termination;” a packet of letters & photocopy of a birth certificate (1952-1961) re/ a complicated narrative of a constituent’s attempt to be enrolled as a Mission Indian and related information as to her family and claims procedure; letters (5/61) re/ constituent inquiry for a Menominee Indian, tribal funds and attached genealogy list for this family going back to “KaCheos – full Menominee soldier, Black Hawk War;” letters (Apr.-May 1961) re/ a very through response from Acting Commissioner Hildegard Thompson to an inquiry from a Wilson constituent about the St. Labre Mission Indian School in Montana; letters & telegram (6/61) re/ a request from a constituent of Wilson’s who wished to “be released as a ward of the government from the Mesa Grande Indian Reservation” in hopes of receiving a land settlement; letters (May-June 1961) re/ a Wilson constituent requests help in solving a leasing issue she had with a tenant farming her quarter-section on the Rosebud Reservation; letters (July-Aug. 1961) re/ responses to an inquiry from a El Cajon constituent as to information on the number of “Indian reservations and groups in southern California,” a 2 page listing was attached to this packet of letters; letters (June-Sept. 1961) re/ BIA and Agricultural Dept. responses to a constituent inquiry “asking if cattle feed can be made available to Indians on the Barona Reservation in San Diego County because of the drought.”
