Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, telegrams, news clippings & other items. Examples are: letters (June-July 1953 from George E. Campbell (Campbell Machine Co.), Congressman Wilson & attached copy of news clipping “U.S. Employee Unions Proposed in New Bill,” The S.D. Union’s Washington Bureau re/ Wilson introduced this bill and received criticism from constituent Campbell; telegram and letters (3/55) from C. J. Hardy Sec. Local Joint Exec. Bd. of Unions 402 and 500 and Wilson re/ complaints about off duty naval personnel competing with civilians for jobs when high unemployment exists in San Diego; letters (6/56) & political cartoon re/ tuna boat engineer & constituent W. H. Burruss’ ideological complaints against Union leaders, internationalist politicians and other government actions; letters (1/55) re/ Chula Vista constituent (South Bay Radio and Television) complains about active duty Naval personnel doing “radio and television repair in open competition with private enterprise;” letters (11/55) re/ a constituent appeals to Wilson to ask support for NLRB action for hotel workers striking in Miami Beach for living wages and work conditions. For the last twenty years the NLRB had not exercised jurisdiction over hotels and decided to adhere to this policy in 1955; letters (Nov.- Dec. 1955) re/ appeal to NLRB from a number of technical employees seeking decertification from IAM unions as to Case No. 21-RD-275 Solar Aircraft Company; letters (Jan.-Feb. 1956) re/ San Diego Naval Lodge No. 726, International Association of Machinists & Resolution “By Silvergate District Lodge No. 50 of the International Association of Machinists, San Diego, California” indicating “a drastic reduction in the number of civilian employees in the San Diego area” and Congressman’s Wilson’s clarification there of; letters & office note to Ed from Bob (4/54) & attached copies of Bureau of Employment Security, Dept. of Labor, “Employment and Unemployment in the San Diego Area Selected Periods, 1950 – 1954” & for “1946-1954” re/ Wilson’s inquiries to Robert C. Goodwin (Dir., Bureau of Employment Security); a copy of Dept. of Labor, Labor News Release, March 20, 1954 re/ “Surplus Labor Areas Up In March;” 2 pages, no date, of labor information by Frank Macomber, Copley press leased wire; letters (1/57) re/ Richard E. Adams (Attorney at Law) concerning case of Kirby vs. Painter’s Union, Local 333 & responses from the National Labor Relations Board Twenty-First Region; packet of letters & news clipping (Feb.-Mar. 1957) re/ jurisdictional fight between the AFL Typographical Union, Local #221, and the CIO Amalgamated Lithographers affecting Neyenesch Printers, Inc.
