Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, memorandum, a legal brief, Resolutions, statements & 2 booklets. Examples are: a letter (1/11/62) from Ramona constituent Jay Brett & Wilson’s reply (1/19/62) re/ Mr. Brett’s concerns about “people working at General Dynamics – Astronautics, and living in Mexico;” letters/notices from William J. Brine (Chairman Label Committee Allied Printing Trades Council) & a questionnaire to his constituents from Congressman Wilson (7/61) re/ a request for “displaying the Union Label on your printing” & commentary written on Brines letter of “They always ask but NEVER give!;” a letter (2/28/62) from National Committee on Employment of Youth” and attached questionnaire re/ concerns for excessive number of dropouts of youth from high school; memorandum (3/27/62) and attached copy of 136 NLRB No. 26, El Cajon, Calif., Hatch Chevrolet and Local 481, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, Case No. 21-CA-4443, “DECISION AND ORDER” (3/11/62); a letter (3/29/62) from A. J. Pessel (V.P., Matson Navigation Co.) & attached copy of “Labor Status Report – March 28, 1962” re/ “another report covering the current status of the maritime-labor difficulties on the Pacific Coast;” letter, resolutions & photocopy of news article (Feb.-Mar. 1962) re/ California Lathing & Plastering Contractors Assn. & Local 2 of the Operative Plasters and Cement Masons International Assn., AFL-CIO send their Resolutions to Wilson for study to facilitate better relationship between employers and labor unions; a letter (4/17/62) from Thos. L. Pitts (Secretary-Treasurer, CA Labor Federation, AFL-CIO) re/ they are distressed that McCarthy-King bill (H.R. 7640-S. 2084) will not move this session – “it would have provided a long overdue revision of our basic unemployment insurance program, but the permanent addition of 13 weeks benefits would have dealt with a pressing problem in California. As you know, unemployment in California was 507,000 persons or 7.7% of the labor force in February;” a letter (4/11/62) from George A. Miller (President and Executive Dir., Music Operators of America, Inc. & attached copy of “The True Facts About the Jukebox Industry and Jukebox Royalties” re/ Mr. Miller’s information to Wilson as to proposed H.R. 70 and its hoped for defeat; a letter (received 4/11/62) from J. Paul St. Sure (President, Pacific Maritime Assn.) & attached copy of “Facts Behind the Strike Seafarers International Union Against the Pacific Maritime Assn. April 6, 1962” (10 pp.); a letter (n.d.) from Paul Powell (Chairman, PAC, Local 506 UAW AFL-CIO) to “Dear Candidate” re/ meeting on April 21 to interview candidates from both political parties; a letter (2/12/62) from Clifford L. Slauson (Chairman, Executive Bd., Engineers and Architects Assn.) re/ commentaries on recent NLRB ruling on agency shop provision and non members; letter (4/16/62) from Andrew J. Biemiller (Dir., Dept. of Legislation, AFL-CIO) & attached copy of “Comments On Bow Bill, H. R. 10981,” 5 pages re/ the “need for action on the part of the federal government to assist older citizens in meeting the costs of health care” and aspects of the bill that just serve insurance companies, not elderly citizens in need; letters (Mar.-June 1962) re/ commentaries from Wilson, DOD and Dept. of Labor as to employment of aliens in work requiring a security clearance; letters (Mar.-July 1962) re/ commentary on H. R. 10396, the Technical Education Act; letters (July-Aug. 1962) re/ responses to inquiry from Miss Virginia Gooding as to NLRB, employees & union membership; letters (Oct.-Nov. 1962) re/ La Mesa constituent Marvin B. Abbey receives information from Wilson and the Dept. of Labor relative to the Manpower Development and Training Act of 1962; a booklet from the CA Labor Federation, AFL-CIO entitled “Labor and Civil Rights 1962,” 15 pages; Statements of Policy (Pages A 3-48) Resolutions – Part 1 (Pages B 1-105) Preliminary Roll of Delegates, Fourth Convention , August 20-24, 1962, California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO. Only pages3-48 are in this copy.
