Scope and Contents
A large collection of letters, news releases, booklets, newsletters & other items. These are not filed in chronological order. Examples are: letter (4/1/64) from W.J. DeBrunner (Business Mgr., San Diego Building Trades & Construction Council), Wilson’s reply (4/8/64) & copy “of form which would have served as an agenda” for their meeting which had to be cancelled because of Mr. DeBrunner’s illness; letters (Apr.-May 1964) from constituents Travis Branch (member Meat Cutters Union, Local 229), Max J. Osslo (Secretary-Business Mgr., Local 229), Wilson & Francis M. Kleiler (Dir., Office of Labor-Management and Welfare-Pension Reports, Dept. of Labor) re/ commentary on interpretation of section 101(a)(5) of the Landrum-Griffin Act and fines against union members by the executive board; letter (5/7/64) from Andrew J. Biemiller (Dir., Dept. of Legislation, AFL-CIO) re/ support for amendments to H. Breitbard (CA Linen Supply) concerning inquiry about H. R. 9824 and Fair Labor Standards Act; letters (June-Aug. 1964) re/ responses to inquiry from Miss Pamela Becker about the “Harvest of Shame” article in Commonweal; letters (Apr.-Aug. 1964) re/ responses to constituent James Walton (All World Tours) complaints about Wage and Public Contracts Div. investigation of All World Tours under the Fair Labor Standards Act; letter (8/20/64) from Secretary of Labor W. Carpenter, USN Ret.) re/ “Although I am a Republican, I believe that Congressman Van Deerlin is correct in his attitude re picket lines. I will not cross one either!” ; letters (4/64) from the San Diego Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America & Wilson’s excerpt from Engineering News-Record (4/9/64 – page 67) re/ “Union Power May Be Labor’s Downfall;” a letter (3/6/64) from Wirt A. Yerger, Jr. (Chairman, Southern Assoc. of Republican State Chairmen) re/ complaints about HR 9241 – Extending coverage of minimum wage law; a copy of The Catalog, Vol. 1 No. 3 re/ “World Wide Boycott Hits Sears Policies;” stapled packet of letters (Nov. 1963-Feb. 1964) and attached copy of Public Law 86-257, 86th Cong., S. 1555 September 14, 1959 (28 pp.) re/ complaints about “the unauthorized liquor purchases of the Business Agent of our Painters Union [Local 333];” stapled packet of letters (Dec. 1963 – Feb. 1964) re/ a constituent files two complaints with the NLRB against General Dynamics Astronautics & against I.A.M., Lodge #50. The case against the company was for discrimination and against I.A.M. was for non-support.”
