A collection of letters, telegrams, office notes, Wilson’s “Welcome to Washington!” cards, news clippings & a newsletter. Examples are: a letter (4/7/61) from C. M. Eichenlaub (San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway Co.) & Wilson’s reply (4/13/61) re/ “Thank you for . . . calling to my attention the activities of the Teamster’s Union against your piggyback program;” a letter (11/22/60) from the Communications Workers of America (Local 9509) re/ employees of the Bell Telephone System; telegram (2/21/61) re/ concerns of CA Floral Industry as to airline strike; telegram (1/18/61) re/ concerns of Vegetable and Melon Growers Assn. with picketing activities of Seafarers’ International Union; letters (Mar.-May 161) re/ Frank C. Johnson & the financial reports of Culinary Alliance and Hotel Service Union Local 402 & Waiters and Bartenders Union Local 500; a letter (6/14/61) from Thomas L. Collins’ “attacks on Convair management and my efforts in Washington;” other items and topics are: constituent concerns about Anti-Trust action against DuPont-General Motors (6/61); letter & resolution (2/62) from the CA Labor Federation supporting the establishment of Point Reyes National Seashore Recreation Area (H.R. 2775); letters (1/62) & attached excerpt from Silvergate Union News (1/5/62) re/ constituent and Wilson make negative comments about “union bosses;” letters & telegrams (3/62) re/ Matson Navigation Co. comments on strike by Seafarers International Union; letter (3/22/62) from Walter J. DeBrunner (Business Mgr., S.D. The drop was partly accounted for by the layoffs in the aircraft industry; letter (4/9/62) re/ the CA State Council of Carpenters’ Convention & copies of Resolution Nos. 9 (Youth Conservation Bill), 14 (Government Work) & 17 (Medical Care for the Aging) attached; telegram & letter (5/62) re/ John A. S. Attorneys are to notify the public that their offices will be open during voting hours to receive complaints on election day, Nov. 6th & attached copy of this order; letter (5/31/61) from Burke Marshall (Asst. Attorney General, Civil Rights Div.) re/ “This will supplement the Attorney General’s letter to you of May 23, 1961, concerning possible violation of the Federal election laws involving Local 89 of the International Hod Carriers Building and Common Laborers Union” & attached telegram (n.d.) from Wilson to Attorney General Robert Kennedy; telegram (n.d.) from C. J. Haggerty (President, Building and Const. Trades Dept. AFL-CIO) to Wilson re/ crucial legislation on work hours act, 8 hour day, etc.; letter (1/19/62) from C. J. Haggerty to Wilson re/ invitation to our Eighth National Legislative Conference in Washington; letters (July-Aug. 1963) re/ an angry Chula Vista constituent receives assistance from Wilson in getting a return of personal papers related to his insurance with the Carpenters Union, Local 1296; 2 letters (6/63) re/ a La Mesa building contractor complains about unions & Wilson agrees; letters & news clipping (3/63) re/ alleged union association with communism as well as a constituent’s anti-union bias; 2 letters (2/63) re/ “James R. Hoffa of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters expressing his thanks to the entire House of Representatives for the opportunity they provided him in holding the recent hearing on bonding problem of our union;” letters (Jan.-Feb. 1963) re/ constituent receives information “relative to your recent inquiry concerning legislation that would make labor unions subject to anti-trust laws;” letters (12/62 & 1/63) re/ Wallter J. Zable (Cubic Corp.) receives information about the Labor Policy Association’s attempt to obtain changes in the Anti-Trust Laws so they will apply to unions; telegram (2/23/63) re/ “Embargo now in effect on Southern Pacific Railroad . . . causing havoc in the marketing of perishable vegetables produced in California and Arizona;” letters (Nov.-Dec. 1963) & copy of Engineers News – Record, Operating Engineers Local 12 (10/63) re/ concerns about misuse of union funds in local political campaign.
