Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, photographs, statement, Dept. of State Claims form, U. S. Government Press Releases, Bill of Lading, Settlement Certificate & Public Voucher For Transportation Charges. Examples are: letters, statement & photographs (1961-1962) from Charles J. Conniry (Display Director, Marine Corps Exchange, MCRD), Wilson, Major General V. H. Krulak (Commanding, MCRD) & RAdm. Robert D. Powers, Jr. (Deputy and Asst. Judge Advocate General, Dept. of the Navy) re/ settlement to Mr. Conniry of claims “which arose when the limb of a eucalyptus tree fell on his automobile” which was parked in his assigned space at the recruit depot. Mr. Conniry expressed his gratitude to Congressman Wilson “for assisting me in accomplishing a favorable settlement;” letters (1959-1962) re/ constituent Charles J. Krieger’s interest in “The War Claims Act,” both Senate and House versions, due to his loss of property in Germany as a result of military operations during World War II. He had first submitted a claim in December 1946; a large collection of letters & government documents (1958-1962) re/ Los Angeles resident Jovan R. Vukmanovich and his claim against Yugoslavia – “Negotiations with Yugoslavia for the Settlement of Claims of American Nationals;” letters & government documents (1961-1962) re/ claim of Guardian Van and Storage, Inc. of San Diego for $685.79 related to damages incurred in transportation and storage of household goods for a Navy Lt. Commander; letters (1962) re/ claims case, featuring Wilson’s assistance, involving “War Damages in the Philippines. The properties of my family, and mine, while serving the Philippine Scouts, U. S. Army in 1941.” Mr. Navividad was a POW for 3½ years.
