Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, statements, press releases, House and Senate bills, postal card, listing of beneficiaries of private laws, memorandum, memos, reports & a telegram. Examples are: 2 page (n.d.) typed account of “Rep. Bob Wilson (R. of Calif.) today introduced a Resolution in the House of Representatives which would direct the top U.S. United Nations representative Adlai Stevenson to demand free elections for 14 countries under the Communist empire;” letters, H.Res.15 & press release (Jan. & Mar. 1963) re/ a call “for the establishment of a special House Committee on the Captive Nations;” letters (Feb.-Mar. 1963) re/ Congressman John O. Marsh, Jr.’s “House Bill authorizing payment to any defecting members of the Soviet Army in Cuba;” office note to Bob from Ed. G & attached letter (3/8/63) from Congressman John O. Marsh, Jr. re/ Wilson’s “offer of support concerning a bill I introduced to encourage desertions in the Soviet Army;” a letter (2/18/63) re/ “Dear Colleague Re: Peanut Research Laboratory, Dawson, Georgia” and potential federal aid; postal card (11/9/62) from Chula Vista constituent Jean Bryant to Wilson re/ protesting any further action by federal troops in Mississippi and supporting states’ rights; a copy of a 3 page listing of “Beneficiaries of Private Laws” for the 83rd-87th Congresses; 5 legal-sized pages of 84 Private Bills as to action, no action and pending; a letter (4/5/63) from Clark Kerr (President, The University of California) to Wilson re/ “I am gratified to know of your introduction of H.R. 964 calling for establishment of a Veterans Administration hospital in the San Diego area” and information to Wilson about this in connection to UCSD; letters (5/27/63) from the Comptroller General of the United States re/ “the Government’s claim against the Organizing Committee, VIII Olympic Winter Games . . . . We have concluded that there is no basis for asserting a claim against the State of California;” office note, memo (5/20/63) & 2 page copy of H. Con. Res. 83 (2/7/63) re/ modification of wording in this resolution on arms control and general disarmament; “Memo For Bob From: Ed Re: Visit with Carl Welty and Bill Quirk – Monday, February 11th and details about Federal Building, VA Hospital, Water Pollution Control Laboratory, Submarine pier, Harbor Dredging & Scientific Library and Technical Data Center; Comptroller General of the United States, “Report to the Congress of the United States Unauthorized Use of Federal Funds Advanced To The Organizing Committee, VIII Olympic Winter Games Squaw Valley, California, U.S.A. 1960, Incorporated For Construction of a Sports Arena” (Oct. 1963, 13 pp.); a letter (10/21/63) from John M. Res.234 that he introduced in November; photocopy of news item re/ “Wilson Proposes Prayer Amendment;” telegram (11/8/63) from constituent Gladys Worden re/ “Eddie joins me in congratulating your clarification on the school prayer bill;” a letter (11/6/63) from Cirrilo Basuel (Honolulu, Hawaii) re/ “I was pleased to learn of your sponsorship of HR-6830, which would permit the premium pay of Federal Fire-Fighters to be considered as basic salary;” copy of a letter (11/6/63) from Anthony J. Lemmo re/ similar letter of praise as the above concerning federal fire-fighters compensation; copy of “For Immediate Release” from the office of Rep. Bob Wilson (n.d.) and attached copy of “Remarks of the Hon. Bob Wilson As Appeared in the Congressional Record November 7, 1963 re/ Calls for a Free Election in Captive Nations.”
