Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, memos, office notes, news clippings, resolutions & congressional information. Examples are: a letter (9/16/65) from Congressman Charles L. Weltner to Wilson & attached copies of a H.J. Res. 620 (8/11/65) & “Remarks of Charles Longstreet Weltner” re/ proposing an amendment to the Constitution “to provide that the right to vote shall not be denied on account of age to persons who are eighteen years of age or older;” “Memo To The Boss” (8/19/65) re/ commentary on the Trieste I being placed in the Smithsonian; “Memo For JBU . . . Molly” (8/18/65) re/ “Lincoln Arnold called to advise that the Finance Committee, while considering H. R. 7502 (Ullman), on taxes, incomes, disaster and casualty losses. . . .;” Memos to Mimi & to Ed (n.d.), attached excerpts from the Capital Report (n.d.) & Undersea Technology (11/64) re/ filing instructions , oceanography , “Submarine Build-up in Cuba” & “Red Military Power;” stapled packet of letters and a Resolution (1965) and exhibit pages (1942, 1944 & 1945) from Robert S. Martires (Chapter Commander & Authorized Representative, Philippine Scouts Chapter 147, DAV) to Wilson & his reply re/ “the enclosed Resolution and allied materials, urging the enactment of legislation to equalize the pay and allowances for the Philippine Scouts, under bills now pending before your House Committee on Armed Services;” letters (6/26 & 7/8/65) & attached Resolution (1/21/65) from the Eighth Guam Legislature re/ Naval Governor George A. Alexander be advanced to Rear Admiral from his present rank of Captain, USN (ret.); packet of letters & a Resolution (1965) & 1 page Congressional Bill 1844 (1963) re/ “legislation awarding compensation to survivors of servicemen retired for long service or disability of any degree whether or not death of the retired is attributable to the service-connected disability;” letters & note (3/65) re/ “private bill for Bernardino Savone;” letters (6/65) re/ “Key Provisions of H.R. 4822 . . . 1. Purpose. The bill will authorize the design, construction, and operation of a 25-mile rail rapid transit system for the National Capital” – cost estimate = $100 million federal govt., $50 million D.C. contribution & $281 million public sale of revenue bonds – Wilson indicated he would support the bill; letter (6/1/65) re/ 86 members of the “Bi-Partisan Anti-Backdoor Spending Committee” oppose provision in Title II of the new Housing and Urban Development Act; postal card and letter (5/65) re/ a Coronado constituent requests Wilson sign “Congressman Broyhill’s petition to keep the right to acknowledge God in the institutions of our land,” which he did; office note & letter (11/64), copy of “The AFGE-1399 Newsletter” (Vol. 5, #11, Nov. 1964) & copy of 88th Cong., 2nd Sess. H.R. 1296 re/ concerns of the AFGE about cuts in proposed bills as to the San Diego Naval Repair Facility.
