A large collection of letters, news clippings, records, performance evaluations, & other items. Examples are: a copy of a letter (4/8/60) from Walter M. Besterman (Legislative Asst. to the Committee on the Judiciary) to Wilson re/ “The amendment to the immigration law which Mr. Gigliotti recommends would reenact a statute which we had on our books during World War II;” letters (3/23, 4/6 & 4/19/60) from Lemon Grove constituent Dr. Frank B. Gigliotti & Wilson re/ immigration law changes to give citizenship to those who serve in the armed services; copies of letters (4/24/61) from John D. Tate, Jr. (Chief Yeoman, U.S. Navy) & B.L. Moore (Honolulu) & Wilson re/ helping Filipino servicemen & conservative fears of Russia; letters (Feb., Mar. & Sept. 1961) from PN1 USN Mauricio R. Bugnosen & Wilson re/ assisting Filipinos serving in the armed services & congrats to Wilson for his election as Chairman of the Republican Congressional Committee; letters (10/61) re/ response to inquiry concerning the status of Philippine citizens serving in the United States Navy, their dependents & reference to the article in the Navy Times; letters (10/26/61) from Wilson re/ immigration problem of David Abittan & status of quota from Morroco; copy of letter (1/16/62) re/ immigration problem of Faustino G. Dumaplin; copy of letter (6/26/62) re/ transfer of visa file from Tijuana to Manila; letters (June & July 1962) re/ constituent inquiry & response as to benefits to Filipinos who serve honorably in the armed services; letters (7/62) from Coronado resident, Servillano Briones Atienza (Yeoman First Class, U.S. Navy) and Wilson’s response re/ interest in legislation to “benefit Filipino sailors who have served honorably in one of the Services;” letters (7/26) similar to the above re/ National City resident Leon Tabuso Garcia, Jr.; 9/6/62 copy of Foreign tpreceived by the American Consulate General at Tijuana, Mexico; letters & personal data (Aug.-Sept. 1962) re/ responses to constituent “interest in helping Samuel Castillo Tabienda obtain his citizenship;” letters (Nov.-Dec. 1962) re/ Wilson & INS response to inquiry from Yeoman First Class Wilfredo L. Zamora (COMCRUDESPAC) as to Filipino citizens serving in the military acquiring citizenship under PL 87-301 – according to Wilson, there was opposition from the Navy; letters (12/62 & 1/63) re/ PN1, USN, Odon Lopez De Castro (Filipino National) seeks American citizenship; letters (8/60 & 1/63) re/ In 1960, Coronado resident Vicente Coronel “petitioned for an Immigrant Visa in behalf of my son, Teodore Carpena Coronel, who is at present a member of the United States Navy with a total of eight years active naval service” – Wilson’s response indicated, as in the above cited Zamora letters, that Navy opposition was inhibiting any progress for Filipinos serving in the Navy; staple packet of letters & other official material (1962-1963) re/ former Coast Guard enlistedman Faustino G. Dumaplin, Jr. seeks assistance in acquiring citizenship for himself and wife (both are Filipino nationals); letters & personnel records (1962-1963) re/ appeal & information that young Philippine seamen, such as PN 1 USN Mauricio R. Bugnosen, become citizens of the United States; letters (Apr.-May 1963) re/ responses to inquiry by Raymundo T.Archival (serving on board U.S.S. Washburn) as to citizenship; letters (6/63) re/ “legislation introduced in behalf of Hipolito Mora Lorilla;” stapled packet of letters (1960-1963) re/ Cecilio P. Nale and his wife wish to become naturalized American citizens. Mr. Nale’s letter to the “Editor, NAVY TIMES” is included in this packet of materials.
