Scope and Contents

A small collection of letters, news clipping, cancelled envelope & stamps. A letter (2/22/63) from constituent Sterling V. Starr, attached news clipping, envelope & Wilson reply (3/6/63) re/ “Did Post Office Goof On Using Flag Stamp?”; letters (Feb.-Mar. 1963) from constituent Mrs. Kenneth Booth, Wilson & James F. Kelleher (Special Asst. to the Postmaster) re/ responses to inquiry as to American Flag stamp & request for its recall; a letter (2/18/63) from G. Nelson Watts (Business Mgr., Friends Hospital), “Suggested Design For U. S. Postage Stamp ‘The Advent of Humane Treatment of the Mentally Il’” & listing of “Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee” re/ a request to Wilson to “support the issuance of this special postage stamp as an auxiliary to the ‘Bold’ Mental Health Plan proposed by the President;” letters (1/62-4/63) re/ replies to S.D. Bd. of Supervisors’ Jan. 30, 1962 motion for a commemorative stamp honoring the 75th anniversary of the Tournament of Roses – due to a large number of subjects seeking commemorative stamps, the Post Office was unable to do this for 1963 & 1964; letters (3/62 & 4/63) re/ CA Assembly Joint Resolution No. 8 application for Tournament of Roses commemorative stamp; letters (July-Aug. 1963) re/ arch conservative rant from a constituent & response from Post Office as to why President Monroe’s stamp has been eliminated; letters (June-Aug. 1963) re/ constituent George H. Cheney inquiries as to “the plate numbers on postage stamps,” responses & a block of cancelled “Emancipation Proclamation” stamps.
