Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, resolutions, maps, graphs, telegrams & an office note. These are not filed chronologically. Examples are: a letter (3/23/62) from the Association of California Consumers to Wilson and attached copies of 7 Resolutions re/ topics such as “amend the Natural Gas Act to prohibit rate increases without FPC approval, passage of a truth-in-lending bill, legislation to control deceptive weight and measurement practices & restraints on corporation lending practices, legislation creating a cabinet level Dept. of Consumers and support for S. 1552 to reduce consumer drug prices by supporting more generic brands; letters (Feb.-Mar. 1962) re/ health and safety concerns from constituents Mr. & Mrs. A.G. Morely, Jr. about a federal plan to dump 70 tons of retenone into the Green River by the Interior Dept. are responded to by the Asst, Sec. of the Interior with support for the project to stimulate sport fishing and other recreational activities connected with the Flaming Gorge dam; a letter (1/11/62) from C.J. Craven (Republic Steel Corp.) & Wilson’s reply (1/19/62) re/ partisanship & Wilson’s support for a “good business climate;” letters (1/62) re/ correspondence concerning the State of California & the Colorado River Basin; notes and typed information from Ken Sheppard (Alaska Pipeline Co.), (n.d.) re/ “furnishing of Natural Gas Service to Fort Richardson and Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska; letters (3/62) from the Alaska Pipeline Co. & the Union Oil Co. of California & maps & graphs of the proposed pipeline re/ detailed analysis of all fuels offered – Coal – Oil – Gas, which supported conversion to gas; typed copy of Western Union Telegram (n.d.) from AK Commission of Commerce to K. A. Sheppard re/ info. On Fairbanks Gas Transmission Inc.; a copy of Alaska Pipeline Co., “Status of Military Contract for Supplying Natural Gas to Fort Richardson and Elmendorf Air Force Base . . . as of March 12, 1962” – includes attachments, details, legal brief, etc.; Wilson office note (8/15/62) re/ gas vs coal fight in Alaska; a letter (3/23/62) from Norman E. Woodbury (Executive Dir., California Municipal Utilities Assn.) to Wilson & attached copy of Resolution No. 2 (3/9/62) urging Congress to authorize the construction and operation of the Auburn-Folsom South Reclamation Development as a unit of the Central Valley Project of California; letters (5/9 & 5/11/62) from Jerry A. O’Callaghan (Asst. Dir., Lands and Minerals, Bureau of Land Management) & Wilson re/ a citizen from Wilson’s district wanted to discuss a mining claim, which was being contested. The constituent, Thomas Martin, was delayed in returning to Washington.
