Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, memos, notes, government documents, press releases, brochures, pamphlets and other items. Examples are: letters & notes (Feb.-Apr. 1963) & copies of H.R. 307 …A Bill To authorize the sale, without regard to the six-month waiting period prescribed, of cadmium. . . . & H.R. Report No. 87 Authorizing the Disposal of Cadmium From the National Stockpile re/ details leading to Congressional action by April 1 “which will permit the immediate disposition of two million pounds of cadmium from the national stockpile;” letters (4/63) & a reprint of the Union Oil Company of California’s April 1963, Bulletin, “Profits and Freedom” re/ an attempt to show the association between profits and social progress; Union Oil Company of California press release for 4/22/63 re/ “a new petition to supersede its petition of September 8, 1962 pertinent to crude oil import regulation governing District V” & a copy of Union Oil Company’s April 18, 1963 Petition (8 pp.); a telegram (5/12/63) from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to Bob Wilson re/ opposition to Pacific Northwest Power legislation; a letter (5/24/63) from L. Dan Jones (Independent Petroleum Assn. of America) to Wilson and enclosed copies of Oil and Gas Depletion Facts No. 5 “Percentage Depletion and the Consumer of Petroleum” & No. 6 “Percentage Depletion and National Growth” re/ lobbying Congress to continue these tax policies; a letter (6/25/63) from Wilson to the Vice President of the American Mining Congress thanking him for the second copy of the Stockpile Report to the Congress July-December 1962 (Office of Emergency Planning) – this is a 36 page report with text and graphs; a letter (6/14/63) from J. I. Henderson takes on Secretary Udall’s water plan and also comments on SDG&E proposal “to convert sea water as a by-product of its new Chula Vista generating plant;” letters (11/63) & enclosed copy of Resolutions from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Assn. re/ “Resolutions” from the representatives of 90 cooperatives at their convention in Spokane, WA. Oct. 21-22, 1963 – 9 pp.; a letter (11/26/63) from San Diego constituent Leo Turner & Wilson’s reply (12/11/63) re/ “apparent inequity you suffered when the Governor of Texas assumed ownership of your oil wells for reasons of conservation of natural resources.”
