Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, a periodical excerpt & a newspaper’s series pamphlet. Examples are: a letter (12/30/56) from La Jolla constituent Richard Paulson, an excerpt from Science News Letters for December 6, 1956 & replies (1/3/57) from Congressman Wilson & P. Beerman (Water Director, City of San Diego) re/ consideration of evaporation reduction methods used in Australia as noted in the article “Desert Water Saved by Whales” – Ceryl alcohol extracted from whale oil; a letter (1/29/57) Mrs. Dougall Reith (Chairman, National Item II, League of Women Voters of San Diego) & Wilson’s reply (2/6/57) re/ thanking Wilson for sending her a copy of “Water: The Yearbook of Agriculture, 1955” and noting that the League is conducting a twoyear study of water conservation on a federal level; a letter (3/3/57) from Wade Ambrose (President, Ambrose Co., S.D.) & Wilson’s reply (5/8/57) re/ problems related to silting in Colorado River, sufficient water for irrigation needs and a discussion about tuna industry in S.D.; letters (Aug.-Sept. 1957) from Forrest M. Holly Builders, Inc. (Ramona, CA), Wilson & E. G. Nielsen (Acting Commissioner, Bureau of Reclamation, Dept. of Interior) re/ request for assistance in finding “planning services” for land development in Ramona based on the successful bond election held by the Ramona Municipal Water District to obtain Colorado River water; a letter (8/27/57) from Eugene F. Williams (Editor, Evening Tribune), attached copy of the Tribune’s “California’s Water Problems” & Wilson’s reply (9/10/57) – This series was written by Arthur Ribbel. There are 11 articles in this 15 page pamphlet; a letter (10/31/57) from Don Boteler (Hemet, CA) & Wilson’s reply (11/4/57) re/ Mr. Botler’s proposition about exploration of possible underground rivers to increase water availability in Southern California.
