Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, statements, a feasibility study, brochures, a periodical reprint & a Congressional “Committee Print.” Examples are: a letter (3/18/58) from constituent H. E. Nathan (San Diego Hardware Co.) & Wilson’s reply (3/26/58) re/ Wilson assists Mr. Nathan in his request for help regarding a water problem he has on his ranch adjoining the Cleveland National Forest; a letter (1/27/58) from constituent William A. DuCharme & Wilson’s reply (4/14/58) re/ the request for information relative to the water situation in California; letters (5/58) from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California & Congressman Wilson & attached 11 page “[Committee Print] May 1, 1958 . . . 85th Congress 1st Session S. 1887 . . . A Bill To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to construct the San Luis unit of the Central Valley project, California. . . .” re/ the Metropolitan Water District’s comments on Senate Bill 1887; a letter (5/1/58) from Wyoming Governor Milward L. Simpson, an attached copy of an article by Utah Governor George D. Clyde, “The Case for federal reclamation” (Reprinted from Nation’s Business - 4/58) & Wilson’s reply (5/31/58) re/ “an excellent summary of the many benefits of the Reclamation Program;” a large, stapled packet containing letters (1958), a “Proposal for Feasibility Study of Utilization of Icebergs” & advertising brochures from Marine Advisers (La Jolla) – Marine Advisers thanked Wilson for bringing their proposal of iceberg utilization to the State Department and ICA for transmittal to Chile and Peru; a letter (6/11/58) from Paul R. Bonderson (Executive Officer, State Water Pollution Control Board) & Wilson’s reply (6/16/58) re/ recommendations to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act – Section 6 of PL 660; a letter (6/20/58) from Warren W. Butler (Vice Chairman, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, his comments “Concerning proposed legislation . . . to construct the San Luis Unit of the Central Valley Project” & Wilson’s reply (6/25/58) re/ Butler’s objections as to “why H. R. 6035 and H. R. 12899 are found objectionable;” letters (Aug.-Sept. 1958) from Nestor Constituent Mrs. Pete M. Ortega, Wilson & W.A. Dexheimer (Commissioner, Bureau of Reclamation, Dept. of the Interior) re/ the “Collins Water Supply Plan” which proposes tapping icebergs at both poles and piping the water to the continents.
