Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, news clippings, a Resolution, charts & other items. Examples are: a letter (2/2/59) from Harvey O. Banks (Dir., Dept. of Water Resources, State of CA) re/ transmittal to the CA State Secretary of 41 copies of “Report of Board Consultants to Department Water Resources on Proposed Bidwell Bar and Oroville Reservoirs for Control and Development of the Feather River;” letters (Feb.& Mar. 1959) re/ above Report; letters (3/59) from George E. Bean (San Diego City Mgr.) & Captain (CEC, USN) A. D. Hunter (11th Naval District Public Works Officer) re/ attempts to reconcile difference of opinion between the City and the Navy concerning water rates; a chart (3-13-59) prepared by the Office of Water, Engineering and Public Works – showing “Hundreds of Cubic Feet” and “Rate in Cents Per Hundred Feet” re/ Previous Rate, Present Rate and Proposed Rate; a large collection of news clippings for January through March showing the controversy between the City and the Navy as to water rates and Wilson’s participation in support of the Navy & a copy of his March Newsletter. This controversy also had partisan overtones; a letter & a Resolution (3/10/59) from the Kern County Board of Supervisors re/ restrictions to Federal authority vs. State authority as to the Feather River Project; letters (3/59) re/ concerns about lack of funds in the President’s Budget for new soil conservation districts; a letter (4/1/59) from James H. Corley (V.P. Government Relations, Univ. of California) & Wilson’s reply (4/6/59) re/ U.C. interest in H. R. 2251 and a Senate companion bill to establish four regional research laboratories on soil and water management and conservation; a letter (8/21/59) from Harrison Brown (Chairman, National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council) & Wilson’s reply (8/26/59) re/ “Thank you for the very interesting booklet, ‘Turn to the Sea.’ There is much interest in Oceanography in my district.” Wilson forwarded this item to friend Carlos Travares.
