Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, postal cards, news clippings & telegrams. Examples are: 3 letters (6/63) from constituents & Wilson’s replies (7/2/63) re/ sending copies of Public Law 87-297 & “We purchased several copies of the booklet ‘Freedom From War” to distributed to people in San Diego; a letter (6/12/63) from Bonita constituent Major Henry Grafton Chapman, Ret., attached pages 5 & 6 from The World Wars Officer Review & Wilson’s reply (7/2/63) re/ “please push for the amendment or repeal of PL 87-297;” several letters & postal cards (6/63) from constituents & Wilson’s replies (7/63) re/ requests for pamphlet on “Freedom from War” & copy of PL 87-297; a letter (6/12/63) from San Diego constituent Mrs. Kenneth Booth & Wilson’s reply (7/8/63) re/ “Thank you for your recent letter outlining your strong convictions against disarmament;” 7 letters & comments (7/63) re/ similar opposition to the Arms Control and Disarmament Act and support for its repeal; a letter (8/15/63) from Santee constituent C. E Onberg & attached copy of an editorial “Why Does He Kid Us This Way”?, The Valley News, Aug. 15, 1963 re/ “Congressman Bob Wilson of San Diego must be trying to set some sort of a record for irresponsible partisanship” – constituent Onberg indicated that Wilson’s “hackneyed political ties are not fooling anyone who knows the facts;” at least 40-50 letters, postal cards, telegram, news clippings (July-Nov. 1963) & Wilson’s replies re/ negative commentary on the test ban treaty, the UN & civil rights & pro school prayer from many constituents; a copy of John Flynn “Ban the Ban, Wilson Says Nuclear Pact Likened to Munich Fiasco,” Tribune (8-13-63 – a5); photocopy of CQ Almanac (S58 – 1961) - “CQ House Votes 105 through 108” re/ House Accepts Final Peace Corps Bill, Rejects Barley Bill, Approves Arms Control Agency, Additional ‘Supergrades’;” Congressional Record—House (9/19/61 ), pages 19104-19105 re/ yeas, nays and not voting on Arms Control and Disarmament Act; 5 letters (July-Aug. 1963)from constituents, some of whom were Republicans, & Wilson’s replies re/ test ban proposal is the only hope and should have been done by the Republican administration, whereas Wilson disagreed with the present state of the test ban proposals; a letter (8/6/63) from J. R. Topper (Manager-Product Sales, General Electric Co., Owensboro, Kentucky, attached copy of advertisement from The Washington Post (8/5/63) featuring “Now electronic systems can be ‘hardened’ against crippling nuclear radiation” & Wilson’s reply (8/14/63) re/ coverage of high pulse radiation of nuclear blast discussion and TIMM circuits.
