Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, statements, resolution, notes and a booklet. Examples are: a letter (1/22/62) from constituent Jack Lyons, a “Statement of Citizen’s Forestry Study Group of San Diego County” & Wilson’s reply (1/30/62) re/ “support of a request for increased appropriations for fire protection for the Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, and San Bernardino National Forests for the Fiscal Year 1962-63 and the continuation of a ten-year program aimed at securing adequate fire protection;” letters (1/62) from James F. Healy (V.P. & Trust Officer, The First National Bank), the National Park Service & Wilson re/ Mr. Healy’s request for information to assist his son and a friend seeking summer employment with the Park Service; letters (1/19 & 1/31) re/ Wilson thanks Conrad Wirth (Dir., National Park Service) for sending him an Annual Pass for 1962 to the areas in the National Park System; a letter (2/28/62) from Daniel G. Skillman (Planning Director-Secretary County of San Mateo) & attached “Resolution No. 17091 Board of Supervisors, County of San Mateo” re/ “Resolution Endorsing Point Reyes Acquisition For National Park in Marin County, California;” a letter (3/14/62) from CA Governor Edmund G. Brown to Wilson re/ “I hope that you will join me in support of President Kennedy’s proposal to establish a 500-million dollar land conservation fund to protect our precious park and recreation resources;” letters (Apr.-May 1962) re/ summer employment inquiry as to National Parks; letters (Apr.-July 1962) re/ responses to constituent Carl Oxe’ as to a boat launching charge at Grant Lake by a leasee not the Forest Service; letters (June-July 1962) re/ responses to concerns of J. Donald Hughes (Wesley Foundation, San Diego State College) about the “proposed power project in the area of the Grand Canyon National Park;” a copy of a four page letter (7/14/62) from Charles J. Sherburne (El Cajon Electronic Engineering Enterprise) to Robert L. Harkness (Deputy Director, Dept. of Finance, Sacramento, CA) re/ Mr. Sherburne’s “Mt. Woodson, Division of Forestry property lease agreement;” letters (July-Aug. 1962) & pages 191- 192 from the 1961 Forest Service Handbook re/ responses to constituent Don M. Deck’s concern about the increase in off-road motorized vehicles and the damage they cause to National Forest lands; office note and letters (8/62) re/ “correspondence concerning the Burnt Rancheria Campground on Mt. Laguna;” letters (Aug.-Sept. 1962) re/ responses to constituent complaints about the rehabilitation of Burnt Rancheria Campground; letters (8/10 & 9/13/62) re/ Wilson sent the “text of several proposed regulations directed toward extension and overall management of the forest development road system serving the National Forests” to the San Diego Chamber of Commerce for review.
