Scope and Contents

A collection of news releases, folders, letters, resolutions, statements, photocopies of “Code of Federal Regulations & news clippings. Examples are: a National Capital Region, National Park Service Press Release (3/11/64) – “New Trailer Park Soon to be Established” & an attached “Prince William Forest Park” pamphlet; letters (Mar.-Apr. 1964) re/ responses from Wilson and the Dept. of the Navy to Lakeside constituent Ray G. Bogowiz and his interest in access to the Carrizo Impact Area adjacent to the Anza-Borrego State Park -“Over a 10-month period in 1959- 60 approximately 16,000 man-hours were expended by the 1st Explosive Ordinance Disposal Company, U. S. Marine Corps, in removing unexploded ordnance,” but difficulties still remain to make the area safe; a letter & a resolution (4/20/64 & 4/30-31/64) from the Colorado River Wildlife Management Committee (Las Vegas, NV) re/ H.R. 4010 should include protections for state jurisdiction of hunting and fishing in Lake Mead National Recreation Area; letters (Mar.- Apr. 1964) re/ successful responses from Wilson, the Forestry Service and the National Park Service to an inquiry from Mrs. Charlotte D. Young (La Mesa-Spring Valley School District) in helping her obtain a permit to collect botanical specimens for her science classes at the Spring Valley Junior High School; letters, Statement & Facts (Apr.-June 1964) re/ Wilson and the government agencies reply to constituent Charles T. Brumer, Jr.’s concern as to what the U.S. Forest Service & the National Park Service were planning to do on Admiralty Island and to King’s Canyon National Park; letters (June-July 1964) re/ Wilson and the Dept. of Commerce offer sympathetic replies to La Mesa constituent Robert M. Anderson Jr.’s concern that construction plans in Northern California for Interstate 5’s coastal route will necessitate the removal of redwood trees; letters (June-July 1964) & photocopies of #s 1.36 & 6.2 of Title 36, “Code of Federal Regulations” re/ Wilson & the National Park Service reply to the inquiry of constituent Miss Mildred Payne as to rules and regulations applicable to the entry of commercial passenger-carrying motor vehicles in the National Parks and Monuments; letters (6/11 & 7/7/64) re/ Wilson’s office replies to inquiry from El Cajon constituent Mrs. McFarland as to information on National Parks for vacation planning; letters (6/26 & 7/9/64) & attached news clipping re/ Wilson’s office responds to constituent Mr. & Mrs. Edic’s inquiry about Congressman Sisk’s bill to include the Tehipete Valley country in King’s Canyon & Sequoia National Park; letters ((Aug.-Oct. 1964) re/ Wilson & the National Park Service respond to complaints from constituent Joe Strohl, Jr. about “the lack of protective service within the park” such as littering and traffic congestion; letters (Oct.-Dec. 1964) re/ Wilson & the County of San Diego are successful in getting Mission San Diego de Alcala designated as a Registered National Historic Landmark.
