A collection of letters, notes, telegrams & a memorandum. Examples are: letters & telegrams (Jan.-Dec. 1953) re/ resident concerns about the removal of Mrs. Pearl B. McCloskey as Postmistress at Dulzura & the search for a replacement; a letter (1/4/54) from Assemblyman Ralph R. Cloyed (80th District) to Congressman Wilson re/ questionable removal of Postmistress McCloskey; a letter (12/30/53) from Robert B. James (Chief Deputy Clerk, San Diego County) & Wilson’s reply (1/11/54) re/ more detailed information on Pearl B. McCloskey which indicates her and the community’s viewpoint; a letter (12/21/53) from Dulzura constituent Mrs. C. A. Holcomb & Wilson’s reply (1/12/54) re/ “The residents of Dulzura are very indignant over the dismissal of Mrs. Pearl McCloskey who has been Postmaster here since 1941 – She is the widow of D.A.V. of World War one [and] has raised six fine children;” letter & memorandum (1/12 & 1/15/54) re/ a negative appraisal of the situation in Dulzura; a letter (2/4/54) from Wilson to Chula Vista constituent and political friend Mrs. John R. Lynch re/ search for replacement of Postmaster for Dulzura even in the face of three-fourths of the residents’ disapproval. “It is probably a ‘hot potato,’ if you can . . . steer us into a solution of the problem, I would be very appreciative;” letters (3/54) re/ Mrs. Lynch provides sympathetic and understanding information to Wilson about Mrs. McCloskey and indicates she may be retained until retirement next year; telegram (3/8/54) from Robert James (S.D. County Clerk) to Wilson re/ “Mrs. McCloskey to be retained at Dulzura. Thanks for your effort;” a letter (12/5/55) from O. H. Fuller (Regional Operations Mgr., Post Office Dept. S.F.) to Wilson re/ “A postmaster vacancy will be created in the fourth class post office at Dulzura . . . at the close of business February 29, 1956;” telegram (12/29/55) from Benny Decker to Wilson re/ “Lorraine Board address Dulzura recently registered Republican recommended for Postmistress;” telegram (2/6/56) from Wilson to O.H. Fuller (Regional Operations Mgr., Post Office Dept., S.F.) re/ your letter February 3 regarding acting postmaster Dulzura. Recommend Lorraine Board . . . be appointed;” letters (2/10 & 3/20/56) from O.H. Fuller & Verne Scoggins re/ Wilson’s recommendation for Mrs. Board. She was installed as the acting postmaster on Feb. 29, 1954; letters (5/56) re/ more information on Dulzura postmaster changes of command. Mrs. Board will resign on June 30 and a Mrs. Laura R. Bohm is seeking to become the new postmaster; letters (5/56) re/ newsy and detailed information about “Laura Bohm, nee Sperry” from Lemon Grove constituent Mrs. Geraldine Bevens Ehrenstein; letter (6/22/56) from Regional Director Verne Scroggins to Wilson re/ resignation of Mrs. Board and need for replacement; telegram (6/27/56) from Wilson to Scroggins – “Suggest Mrs. Laura Bohm be appointed acting postmaster at Dulzura;” letter (6/28/56) from Verne Scroggins to Wilson re/ his recommendation will be taken into consideration; letter (10/9/56) from Scroggins to Wilson re/ “Mrs. Bohm was appointed acting postmaster of Dulzura on August 24, 1956;” letters (12/56) re/ requesting appointment of Mrs. Bohm as postmaster, she was the only one certified as the result of civil service examinations; letter(1/4/57) from Scroggins to Wilson re/ “We are arranging to have Mrs. Bohm given the medical examination required for this position;” letter (2/21/57) indicating that Mrs. Bohm had been appointed Postmaster at Dulzura; letter (4/3/62) from Frederick C. Belen (Assistant Postmaster General, Bureau of Operations) to Wilson re/ “Mrs. Margaret G. Small was appointed acting postmaster at Dulzura . . . on March 30, 1962.”
