Scope and Contents
A small collection of letters & a petition. Examples are: letters (12/9/53 & 1/8/54) from Karl Tuttle (President, Fletcher Hills Civic Association) & Congressman Wilson re/ information about the present size of the Fletcher Hills community, in eight years they had grown from a 1000 to approximately 7000 people, and the need for a post office instead of being a subsidiary of El Cajon; letters (1/12 & 1/20/54) from Ed Fletcher (Ed Fletcher Co.) to Wilson re/ “I thank you for your interest in a post office in Fletcher Hills. . . . it is a shame to have to address the mail of 8000 people to El Cajon in order to get to Fletcher Hills;” letters (12/53-2/54) from Karl Tuttle & Emelie F. Boyle (Fletcher Hills Civic Assn.), Ed Fletcher, Karl Tuttle (Snodgrass & Associates – “Serving the Entire Diary Industry Since 1930”), Wilson & Ben H. Quill (Executive Assist. to the Post Master General) re/ more information on obtaining a post office for the community and forms being sent to establish the necessity for a post office there; a copy of “Petition For Establishment of Post Office” (6/54) with the necessary signatures of Fletcher Hills residents; letters (May-June 1954) from Karl Tuttle, Ben H. Assist. to the Postmaster General) & Wilson re/ clarification as to the process to obtain a branch of the San Diego Post Office for the Fletcher Hills community; letters (9/10 & 9/14) from Stephen G. Fletcher (Ed Fletcher, Co.) & Wilson re/ request to Wilson to “expedite the Post Office Contract Branch Service for Fletcher Hills;” a letter (9/15/54) from N. R. Abrams (Assistant Post Master General) to Wilson re/ further clarification on “the proposed establishment of postal facilities in the Fletcher Hills area. . . .”
