Scope and Contents

A collection of memorandum, letters, a map, news releases & bid solicitations. Examples are: Memorandum (n.d.) re/ “Relocation of the Pacific Beach Post Office . . . .” letters (May-June 1956) from several property owners in Pacific Beach, Verne Scoggins (Regional Dir., S.F.), Wilson & a map of Pacific Beach re/ details on Post Office site proposals and commentary from Mr. Scoggins; copy of a letter (6/19/56) from Wilson to Elmer Austin (Pacific Beach) re/ politics and inquiry about post office location; a letter (6/25/56) from Regional Mgr. Verne Scoggins to Wilson re/ thanks for information on a possible site and the Real Estate Division is well along in negotiations for an assignable option for a location; a letter (8/23/56) from Verne Scoggins to Wilson re/ further delay on option site and need to renegotiate; Post Office notice from Scroggins to Wilson re/ soliciting competitive bids for a leased postal facility – Pacific Beach Station – 10 year lease of at least 5,079 square feet; News Release #128 (11/16/56) from the Post Office Dept. for Pacific Beach Station with details such as an option on a site on the NW corner of Gresham and Hornblend Sts.; Post Office Notice from Scroggins to Wilson (5/3/57) re/ soliciting competitive bids for PB Station – 5300 square feet, five to ten year lease; Post Office Notice from Robert Fahs for Verne Scoggins to Wilson (8/7/56) re/ successful bidder, W. R. Groschan of Los Angeles for newly constructed Cement block building at north side of Garnet between Haines and Gresham Sts.; letters & statement (10/58-2/59) re/ “possibility of installing a handrail at the entrance to the Pacific Beach Post Office” & constituent& Republican Charles R. Jackson’s frustrations with Senator Knowland’s local office on this issue of a handrail; a letter (4/10/59) from Scoggins to Wilson re/ arrangements have been made for the installation of a hand rail at the front steps of the PB station; a letter (4/11/59) to Congress Wilson from Jackson, his wife Margaret & Ruth Law, thanking him for helping get the hand rail built.
