Scope and Contents
A small collection of letters. Examples are: a letter (7/1/53) from N. R. Abrams (Asst. Postmaster General) to Wilson notifying him that “A postmaster vacancy exists in the Fourth Class Post Office at: Mesa Grande, California;” a letter (7/20/53) from Lee Bull (Republican Central Committee of San Diego County to Jack Hanna (Chairman of the committee) re/ “Postal Inspectors have made a survey of the Mesa Grande Post Office and are recommending it be closed . . . . it is doubtful that a Star Route would be self-supporting. Apparently Mesa Grande in its entirety is going out of business;” copy of a letter (8/14/53) from E. F. Terrar, Jr. (Wilson’s Admin. Asst. ) to Bureau of Operations, Div. of Postmasters, Washington, D.C. re/ submitting name for Acting Postmaster at Mesa Grande – “there is little in the way of business activity [there] . . . the existing General Store has, or is, about to close;” a letter (8/25/53) from N.R. Abrams (Asst. Postmaster General) to Wilson re/ acknowledging the inspector’s report recommending that the Mesa Grande post office be discontinued and patrons be served through the star route from the Santa Ysabel office – effective Sept. 30, 1953.
