Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, a postal card & a new clippings. Examples are: a letter (1/12/65) from Wilson to Postmaster General John A. Gronouski re/ “We would appreciate being apprised of the status of the status of a new Post Office at Serra Mesa;” a news clipping & letters (Feb.-Apr. 1963) from Post Office Dept. Executive Asst. Joseph P. Doherty & Wilson re/ the Dept. is giving careful consideration to the request for construction to begin for the new Sera Mesa Post Office; a letter (1/14/65) from Postmaster General Gronouski to Wilson re/ status of application for new post office; copy of a letter (2/11/65) from Executive Asst. Doherty to Wilson re/ plans to provide improved quarters for the Sera Mesa Station, details & proposed location; a letter (2/18/65) from Wilson to Doherty thanking him for the information and requesting amount budgeted for construction and operation; a letter (3/1/65) from Doherty to Wilson re/ “The estimated construction cost of this project will be approximately $100,000. The yearly rental is $9,813” – of the 35 employees, 28 will be letter carriers; letters (Jan.-Apr. 1963 & Mar. 9, 1965) re/ Wilson brings El Cajon constituent Mike Fletcher up to date on early correspondence and current plans from Executive Asst. Doherty on the Sera Mesa postal facility; six stapled packets of corresp. (1963 & 1965) wherein Wilson responded in March 1965 to previous letters from constituents, as well as his own response to inquiries about the status of a new post office for Sera Mesa, especially since the contract post office was a tiny facility located in the Toy Store in a shopping center. In 1963 the population was already 21,000.
